Default Winch mount on trailer

I have just bought a new trailer and i am planning on putting a ATV winch on the front of the trailer to pull on dead quads and snowmobiles . I am wondering the best way to wire it. Should i run wires from truck battery to the bumper with a female plug and a male plug on the winch? Will this work and is there a plug you can buy special for this install? Thanks

honestly you can do it, but i would rather a separate battery all together, then simply charge it from the truck. i have seen my winch pull over 40 amps, which would prolly require 8 gauge from the front of the truck to back

If you wanted to go much easier with about same results maybe try a crank type boat winch like you see on boat trailers. I am sure you would not be using it that much. I believe they are like 2000# enough to pull a boat on trailer.

That sounds good enough I may do it. Have had to winch a machine on my tilt bed trailer twice.

i think the best way is to put a car battery on your trailer by your winch. and charge it after uses.

Ive been thinking about a boat winch. Ive never needed it before but they are cheap and I figure its beter to get such things before the one time you ever need it then after.

Why don't you try an electric winch like this?

electric winch

I used one for a couple of years loading my atvs on to a rack I had in the back of my truck. Worked just fine
