KingQuad or Rancher
#31
Yes Ecorman1, I am listening and I find it very interesting. I would love to see the results of this mod. Wouldn't mind doing it my self but don't have the extra money or mechanical experience to do it on my own. I have a friend who can help with the mechanical part. Now just need to find the money.
Of course if all you King Quad owners want to chip in the money, I will try this mod out and let you all know the results and post it on the web site (grin). I think that sounds like a good idea.

I've got a 95 King Quad and it's quite a nice machine. It's not the biggest or baddest, but it will surprise a lot of larger machines.
A buddy bought it used (and abused) and shucked a gear through the case. It was likely due to abuse in a former life. He had it welded up and put back together. He had ran it for 4-5hrs TOPS when I first heard it run. I told him the top end was junk! He was pissed as it was just rebuilt. I traded him for a whole bunch of work I had done on his truck. I put a new head (bearings were shot) cam chain/tens, and Powroll big bore in it.
It KICKED *** for a lil pup! I saw 52mph speedo on a flat gravel road, and it really hadn't fully broken in.
First time out it blew up! Later we found silicon plugging the oil holes in the crank. It all goes back to the guy who fixed the trans. he will NEVER touch it again!
SO, now I have just purchased the LAST Powroll piston kit, and plan to put it back together again. I plan to up the tire size, and take out the diff. lock lockout pin from the shifter.
I am disappointed that it blew up, but that's not the little Suzy's fault.
i DON'T think I'd buy a new one. That'd be like buying a Honda 300. Excellent machine, but I'd rather have the new improved version.

I would not let the reliability issue that someone had mentioned bother me. The Zook has a great engine, in fact most people in the industry agree and say its one of the best. They don't make high reving engine like Honda but they offer good bottom end torque due to their heavier flywheels. The resale on the Honda has been better. The KQ may cause you some headaches with the brakes but this is true of the Honda's as well as both use outdated drum brakes. Also the Rancher does not have a sub tranny so for work or rough trails it will not offer much in the way of gear selection. I agree with Andy though on the fun aspect of the Rancher on the trails.
