750 prairie

Bombardier has a 1000cc rotax engine ready for the ATV market, but the company is waiting for the competition to get their engines around that ballpark to start producing it into there ATVs, meanwhile they also say there is no need now, people are still buying the 650 at a good rate.

I REALLY need to put my boots on... most states classify the width, weight & or displacement of the engine, in determining what is considered an ATV... here in the midwest, anything over 800 lbs, or 800cc is not considered an ATV... in Minnesota it is ilegal to drive any motorized vehical on the trails that is not considered a licensed ATV or off highway motorcycle ( except for 1-2 trails legal for off highway vehicals... ) with IDIOTS like Ozzy getting on TV & telling the world that his ATV goes 150 mph, I can personally gaurentee that you will never see a 1000cc legal ATV...you may see them on vehicals like the Mule, Ranger, & Rhino... however, have you noticed the top speeds in these vehicals.... can you say S L O W ... I still question the growth in sales of these vehicals since ( like the Rhino ), is more sport / fun based, rather than utility based... you can guarentee that there is going to be alot of frosted Rhino owners this summer when more than a hand full of states conservation officers begin ticketing them for riding on the ATV trails... not to mention the import markets self imposed 600+ lb weight restriction, for ATV's...
IMO, what you will see, is a year by year gradual increase in displacement to 750 - 800cc & then bettering of suspensions, brakes, tires, etc, so that speeds can safely be increased... there is no reason that a 500cc quad couldn't go twice as fast as it currently does, except the they would be unsafe at those speeds ( as they are currently equiped ( suspension, tires, etc )), as determined by the manufacturers corporate lawyers...
You may see a 750cc EFI Prairie, next year... rumors are around, that it will be available in SRA & IRS form... the biggest stumbling block to the IRS, is that self imposed weight restriction... as it is, they are getting too easy to damage, because of thinner / lighter components...

I couldn't agree any more with newbeatle. We are already pushing the threshold of safety. And do we really need a 1000cc atv???? I would like one for the toqure for pulling only.....not for going over 100. I did hear from my dealer where I got my 700P that next year Kawa is going to have the 700prairie bumped up to a 750 v-twin prairie in two versions. One with IRS and EFI and the other with the same straight real sealed axel and EFI. Also he said that Kawa was going to have two 500 v-twin's, one with IRS and EFI and the other with the current P700 rear end and EFI. But, I only believe rumors when I see them with my own eyes. For me, I am extremely happy with my 700 prairie. Just my thoughts.

It was a Bombardier representive at the last National Atv exposition here in Quebec that gave me the information. It will probably not be in next years models but in a close future he said. First, they will follow the competition. Marketing and sales, they sell 650s and when everybody changed their 500 for the 650, then they come with a 700 or bigger, and so on. So, he is saying that they have engines up to 1000cc ready for the Atv competition. Here, there is no 800cc restriction for Atvs and all Atvs are banned off the road unless your a farmer who has the right of travelling on the road if it is for farm work. And Bombardier are already working on bigger 4 strokes rotax engines than 1000cc for their Ski-doos. And believe, it will be a possibility because that extra power would be even more useful for farm work (like carrying heavy equipment around for the tractors between fields) but I would feel bad for you guys if they would banned an Atv in your area because it has more than 800cc.
