2001 Honda Rancher ES 4x4...any good???
Hey, I know the answer to this 1st hand. I bought a ES350 brand new in 2000. Unchanged for 2001. The quad is very light to steer and maneuvers like a dream. I installed 26" Kenda Bear Claws on it. Any more aggresive tire would rob torque to some degree. I have rode it for 4 years hunting, fishing, and trail riding. I can see myself keeping it for a long time as I have not had one once of trouble with it. The only thing that this quad is not very good at is climbing long, loose, steep hills because 1st gear is to low to keep the wheel speed up and 2nd gear doesn't have enough grunt to get you all the way to the top. I am 170 lbs and 6 ft tall. The quad really shines in tight, technical trails with dead fall, waterholes, muskeg etc. It will climb most normal hills without any problem (tires really help this small bore) It is very predictable and nimble without the really harsh throttle spurts. Great ground clearance is a bonus. It has good acceleration with a top end of about 45-50 mph. Did I mention it is VERY easy to steer. My 7&8 year old daughters drive this quad around home. They are to young to drive it on a trip as it would probably get away on them, but around home with small hills and no real technical areas-they ride it for hours. The heaviest thing I ever towed was a 1000 pound moose out of the bush. It was working but had quite an easy time. That was in 1st gear. 2nd gear was lugging a bit. The quad weighs about 535lbs. A real treat to ride. Hope this helps make up your mind. Buy it ! You WILL NOT be disappointed.
