Utility quads are so not cool!!

Hey, so I have fat fingers... OK? Along with not having my bifocals on when I sent the other one... I think most people understand what I meant...
The real answer here is to not compare apples to oranges.. and to not bash each other... There are much bigger issues to work on, and we need everyone's help.
Most of us older guys don't usually choose to get involved with threads that are clearly flame baits... a true sign of young minds at play... but occasionally we join in just for good old times sake... It is fun to see their reaction when you express a dissenting opinion....
OH and I think the color red is faster than pink.... I mean come on......<insert smiley face>

This was a dumb topic. The utility was the obvious choice for me. Utilities obviously have multi functions: trail riding, mudding, plowing snow, carrying supplies for 2-3 days of straight riding without going back to the truck, pulling out stuck sport quads. Yeah, if it weren't for all of the utility quads roaming around the trails, there would be a lot of abandoned sport quads in ditches and mud holes all over the country!! The sport quad would be fun for me if I were to ride in short stints going not too far from the trailer, with my smaller gas tank and no way to carry anything of imortance and safety. But that's not me. I like to carry first aid kit, tow straps, drinks, tools, air compressor (mini 12 volt), and so forth. And with my 4.75 gallon tank, I can ride all day long and can feel safe going far away from the trailer, with no worry about getting stuck (Warn 2.5) or thirsty (small cooler), etc.

Well, like others have said, they both have their place in the world.. I have both types, and ride them all regularly. It really depends on my mood actually.. but I have to say I ride teh Ute a whole lot more often as I get older. I have to say though, that it is fun to throw the sport around once in a while. I just wish my Rubicon turned as easy as my Raptor. After a day in the woods on the Ute, my arms get tired. Not a problem on the sport...

Just the opposite out here in the arid Southwest, where we mostly have dry ground and snow is found only at high altitude. Here, the utilities are the ones that have limited applications, and the sport bikes are the weapon of choice for most riding.
Years ago, utes were pretty rare out here, and you got some pretty funny looks when you showed up on one. Now, you are seeing more all the time, but they are mostly "second bikes", for people who already have a stable of sport bikes.

I've been avoiding this thread and now it's just too long to read every reply. I'm just too tired.
I just wanted to make the comment that my back thinks that utes are really cool. My ute has really saved me a lot of pain while moving things like the log splitter and boat.
I still wouldn't mind doing about 60 mph. 80+ mph seems a little much for where I live. Too many trees would jump out in front of me.

exactly... they both have their place... No way would I want to take a UTE to the dunes... but I would not want to pull a trailer around, or some logs etc with my sport quad either... Since I own multiple copies of both, I just figure I can use what I need, when I need it... but I don't crap on the other...

both have their place. A utility will do a few more things more reliably than a sport, but a sport is still a very fun, great handling, fast, responsive bike. My cousin rides a honda rancher and I always ride what could be considered a sport bike and we have lots of fun. It is great to know that he is there to pull & do the dirty work
There are also some places that I wouldnt take a sport quad, so we both jump on the utilty.

I have to speak up because it seems alot of the sport atv riders out there are mis-informed
about utes,
1)There are sand tires in a 25" size if u want to compare sport vs ute in the sand and im
sure the utility will climb just about any hill u point it at with sand tires.
2)I gps'ed a stock sportsman 500ho with windshield, rear seat, tube bumper, and winch
at 59 mph on paved road and I weigh 220lbs so im sure all of the bigger quads will do
more than that, like has been stated before the 660 and 700 motors will do from 70-75mph
stock which is around 5mph less than a sport quad so BIG DEAL they are all of 5 mph slower.
3)A utility with the suspension set up properly will powerslide and do various other supposed
sport quad only manouvers very easily and a few will stand on their end if u pin it fron a stop.
4)If u want to modd a utility it can be done and with most of the newer ones being auto u can
buy clutch kits and also various exhausts to get a few more horses.
These are just my opinions and although I do like sport quads and have been thinking of
getting a yfz for high speed logging road rideing I have to say utilitys are usually a better
choice to buy because the shear versatility u have with it,

That is exactly right.
I like sport quads, but the versatility of a ute outweighs the nimbleness of a sport. I have more fun throwing the Eiger around, jumping and the joy being able to carry alot of cold ones. Also, I can ride a ute for 40 miles and not feel like i've been rode hard and put away wet.
