full size utility opinions

I have to admit I would never have picked the Honda. I was told they were behind in the utility quads. I just hit their suite and it wasn't much help. The specks look good. What's the deal on the trans and transfer? Looks like I can get one for 7800 otd. 1200 less than the bomb 800. Is the Honda "tippy" in the turns?

We ride mainly dunes in oklahoma or mountain trails in colorado, I think thats similar to what you are asking about. I would avoid anything under 650cc. High altitude eats power, and dunes eat even more power. 400's might work ok on the mountain trail but the dunes would be tough particularly the giant dunes in Cali. I would go at least the Outlander 650 if you like the BRP's. The 650 is about 700 cheaper than the 800. The other guys were saying Rincon, and that would be a good choice as well. The Rincon is a little smaller machine and is also a good choice for what you are wanting to do.

6799.00 here
I know its along way from your home, but maybe it could help with negotiating a good price closer to home, If you decide the honda is for you.

I have been told about the sand and altitude before and will have to remember it. The 650 bombs will not be out for at least another month and will probably go hi bucks for a while, not alot of 800's out here either. Is that Rincon a fun machine? I don't want a slug. With a 680 efi and mounted sideways it should go pretty good. Smaller size I like. Just don't want to be sorry i didn't spring the 1200 for the outty 800. Is 9k a good otd price?

I myself love power and the suspesion on the outy is the best IMO. You can also look at this way. There is nothing you can do to any other brand or model on the market for the differnce in the prices that could get you to the Outy 800's level. You could spend that 1200.00 on the Honda and it still could not run with the big dog. It takes allot of money to get any real performance gains out of a 4 stroke. It sounded like you didn't really care about having all that performance so I would expect the 680 Rincon to be a fine machine for your needs.

Oh, your question about the price depends on what model you were looking at. For example that is a good price on an XT but not so good for a standard model. Check out the BRP website and look at all the different models. MSRP should be able to get you any model you want including the 650's, provided you can locate the model you are in search of. Don't let them charge you allot of BS. fee's like freight and setup. If you run a dealer locate and set down and call them all in your area I would think at leat one of the dealers outthere would be selling them for the MSRP or less OTD not inc. tax.

I know the 800 outty is the best. A buddy has a few for his business and i got to ride one around the parking lot going over curbs like they wern't even there. Awsome suspension. The power is just a rocket. If the rincon suspension is even close to that , no problem. Bombardier makes jet aircraft along with the best toys on earth, but it's hard to beat a Honda also.

They are both IRS, and have a very low center of gravity. The type of IRS systems are different. The Honda is know to be a great handeling machine, so is the Outlander. For me however I like to play around on mine so the Outlander design works much better for me in that it can be kicked out into a power slide at will and at the dunes I like spinning around doing doughnuts and the rincons' and all other machines use a-arm designes that donot lend them selve's to that sort of playfull activities.

For high elevations, you're definetely going to need efi. Look at the 2006 Honda RIncon, KQ700, sp500,sp700efi or 800efi, bomb 800efi, and the new AC700efi. If you're looking for a trail machine for leisure riding, and want the best price the KQ700 is your machine. The bomb is going to be the most $ and i don't believe the 400 has efi. The smallest cc with efi is the sp500efi, but for what you've describe as to your intent, the kq700 is it!

I went to a place that sells the Rincon and the 800 Outty today to look. The Honda is a very well built unit. Clean, and looks like things are well thought out and assembled. I like the Idea of the engine setting sideways so the crank rotation is the same as the driveshafts. How is the 3 speed trans with a torque converter work? The 800 is THE machine and it will be some time before it gets beat. If I can get a killer deal on it, that's it. I will never have to mod it out.
