The canam will fair well at a sled pull. But in dead weight pulls it will sit there and spin where AC and Polaris will pull. Seen this 100 times. Polaris and canam are pretty close when it comes to the weight transfer sleds. It comes down to track condition vs tires on machines. The stock 800 tires do better in the loose stuff. The hard packed stuff the Canam pulls a little better cause the tire it has are less aggressive but it has more rubber touching the grund. The more contast on a hard surface, the better you will pull. Just the oppisite if a tire can dig down any.

I am just not sure why a Polaris or cat would be able to pull more than the Outy, There have been allot sled pulling events around the country this past year, that seems to indicate to me that the Outy can pull quite well, better then the others in many cases. I always here people say that the Pols are made for work, but thats about the last thing I ever wanted to do with the pols, I have owned over the years, every time a buddy needed towed in or pulled out it seemed to cost me a belt or an axel, before it was over. I always hated to have to pull anything with the Pols I had. The cats I think have a little better belt drive then the pols but as far as work machines go, I would say there are plenty of gear on gear choices still on the market and honda seems to lead the way in the durability arena. However the Traxter series Bombs (Now BRP builds in Johndeer green for the JD dealers to sell) those have had pretty good reputations as real work horses, also good gear on gear transmisions. One of the traxter/Bucks has a 5 speed auto gear on gear trans. For me if pulling and jerking heavy objects is the objective, I still preffer gears to belts myself. The one traxter/Buck that is a CVT is called the Trail Buck.

Never seen polaris or cat kill a belt if they are used properly(not saying you were not) Most belts blow if high range is used when low should be. I also said Bomb would fair well in a pull sled contest. Wheel speed is everthing. Weight is also a factor. The reason the bomb does so well is because of the wheel speed it can generate. It wheel produce something like 5-8mph better than a cat or polaris. Depending on the track setup will most likely determine winner in a stock machine. But in a dead weight pull like a heavy log or something like that, the bomb will lose the traction to where the others will get the grip cause of the weight. Pro's and cons for both. My scrammy had 15,000 miles with the same belt. My Dad's old sportsman has nearly 10,000 miles and we have changed the belt once. It was done when he first got it and tried useing high as the pulling gear. Since he uses low, no problems.

We were typing at the same time earlier, I did not see your post till after I sent mine in, as far as the sled pulling. Same belt for 15000, miles. I never knew a scramy had a OD to keep track of such things. I am sorry but I have had several polaris belt drive quads and the only way I would ever believe that kind of mileage was attainable by one was if I saw it first hand. Put up a pic of the OD on your dads sportsman. I just can't imagine a Polaris still running at 10 or 15k.

Friend just had a baby, can't get the pic today. Going to see them. My scrambler had 3 speedo's. First one quit working with somewhere bout 8,000 miles. 2nd and 3rd got ate by the ground and a tree. I still have the scram. I can't put an exact number but the last one would have equaled to over 20,000 miles. That's been 3 years or more and I still ride it. Still runs great. (granted it is wore slam out) My dad has an 05 sportsman now. The old one is a 98 model (Grandpa rides it now). I just bought a new 500 sportsman. I love it. I'll see what I can do on the pic. You wouldn't believe me though If I did take it. It's the old analog type and it only has 4 digits. I think its only showing a few hundred miles on it now. Should have a few more than that. The key that goes in it broke one time and it went a few months without fixin it. You can talk all the trash bout me you'd like and call me a liar or whatever. And I hate you've had your misfortunes in the past. And no, I'm not mad (I see your smiley face there at the end of your sentence) But talkin bout other brands seems to nothin but cause arguements you can't win. So I try to look for pro's and con's of all

Want to pull heavy stuff, buy a tractor....... want to have a good time on an atv, buy a can-am or a grizz or anything that does'nt weigh so friggen much. And really, if the load is too much for an Outlander 800 it's probably too much for any other quad!

I have plenty of fun on my quad, as it can keep up to about 70mph, and it climbs over anything

My quad will do 60. Its a 500. I love it. It does anything and everything that I need to do. We've got 8 different tractors ranging 25hp to 180hp. But the cost effectiveness of uses them verses an atv is way up there. I've even used my quad for raking hay. It suits my needs perfect and fits my riding style to a tee. I love the weight of it and love the way it rides and handles. As long as all of us on this forum can agree to that then we all have the best atv for what we want to do with it. Some may say they hate Polaris, AC, Bomb, Suzuki, Kawi, Honda, Yamaha, etc.... but can there isn't anyone here including myself who can't say that as a whole these companies all make great atvs. You may have had a bad experience with a dealer or with a machine. But for the most part if you think about it, I don't know of any other type of machine made that can take the abuse like an atv and have it done over and over. It amazes me that any brand last more than a few hard rides without some major breakdowns, let alone possibly years of fun they give us all.

NC summed it up pretty well...I would like to add this....

Don't get anything with drum brakes.

There is no valid reason for any modern full-sized ATV to be equipped with anything less than disc brakes at all corners. Yes, I am pointing my finger directly at Honda...Honda may be reliable to beat the band, but they can't/won't pull their heads out of their behinds on this issue.

Trust me, "triple-sealed rear drum brakes" only means that the water has to work three times harder to get out of the brake DRUM housing after it has gotten in (and it will) I rode Hondas for years, and loved them except for the drum brakes always getting contaminated with water/mud and then corroding and wearing out

Switched to Suzuki because they use front and rear disc brakes...plain and simple
