clutch kits.....questions!~
#1
hey!! i have a 2006 king quad, ITP mud lite xtr's, stock rims, and a power commander. i put the power commander on after i put the tires on...the aftermarket tires took a lot of power away. love the PC...brought back the power.
now i want to put on a clutch kit. couple questions for the masses out there.
1. if you get the big tire kit, some products state the top end speed is effected...is that true and how much?
2. can i use the sport utility kits with my big tires?
3. who has the best clutch kit out there?
thanks guys!! i appriciate it!!!

Yes a larger wheel will affect your top speed by lowering it(speedo will be off too due to different drive ratio.)
Epi has a sport ute kit that should work for your quad
Epi makes one of the best kits

True, EPI makes good clutch kits, but so do others. All a clutch kit does is provide for different engagement RPMs and the RPM with which your CVT changes "gears." This is done by spring tension and weights. Call EPI and talk to a tech. Explain what mods you've got and how you will be using your machine. They will be able to give you the advice you need in order to get your CVT clutched correctly for your use.
Given the bigger tires they will probably recommend a kit that allows engagement at a higher RPM, one more in the torque curve. You will notice your machine runs at a higher RPM for a given speed and therefore IOT get to speed, some top speed will be lost. There's no free lunch and without further mods (read $$) you can't have it both ways.
If you are going to trail ride, without a lot of stress on your machine, the standard clutching will work. It won't be the best, but it will work fine. If you are going to stress your machine with mud, tough pulls, and towing, a proper clutch will save a lot of wear and tear on your belt and the bike will feel a lot better.

The best thing about a GOOD quality clutch kit is that it grabs the belt better and lowers the temp. If you run your stock clutch parts with aftermarket tire over time you will wreck your clutchs, they are worth the envestment.
