when i got mine i was told to use an aluminum fair lead. Give it a try if you want, may not hurt it!

I got synthetic for my plow (bad idea) and used the roller fairlead, and it lasted only a few uses. I don't blame the fairlead, but my inability to know when to shut off the winch. But I do have the aluminum hawse that I never used (it came free). if you want it for the cost to ship it to you, it is yours free. kvrdave AT gorge.net

IMO, you should use a hawse fairlead, even you're no as lucky as Bob to get a free one. Hawse doesn't damage synthetic rope as much as roller one.
