Default polaris 500 issue

my polaris 500 ho x2 randomly cuts out. just started happening, machine is a 2006 with low hours on it. at first i thought maybe it was bad gas, but now i'm thinking electrical, because the panel goes blank. it will then start and might cut out at any time. the other day it actually backfired, never had that happen before. i notice the tack needlel looks like it has slight movement when i move the key. im thinking short possible, but not sure where to start looking. any insight would be appreciated

I'd look for any bare wires under the headlight pod area where the main harness does all the twisting and turning. Also in the pod itself around the headlight plug wiring. This is a bad area for shorts. Hope this helps. PS you can get more replies posting in the Polaris section, especially from the X2 owners on future posts. OPT
