Default 1979 Scorpion 440

My dad has a pair of these. One is complete and runs, the other has all parts to make it run. They both only have around 600 miles on them.
What is one of these worth? Are they rare / collectible? He's considering sellin them. I wouldn't mind a sled, are there any good?

I rode Scorpions for years. First had a '74 Scorpion Super Stinger and the last one was a '79 Scorpion Sting 440. They finally went out of business in '80 and most of there parts and inventory was bought up by Artic Cat, but a few years later Artic Cat went bankrup. However Artic Cat as since built themselves back as one of the big four snowmobile companies still producing sleds. Rumor had it; that Artic Cat wanted the Cuyna engine that Scorpion used. Artic Cat did produce a Scorpion sled with mostly Artic Cat parts in '81 and '82, but the brand fadded out after that.

No, they aren't very valuble except if you can find a person who restores snowmobiles and even then they don't bring much over 4 or 5 hundred bucks depending on condition. Way to many built.

My brother in-law in southeast Nebraska has several Scorpion and Massey Ferguson (built by Scorpion) sleds he is collecting in hopes of someday restoring them.

My suggestion would be to fix em up, clean em up and enjoy riding the old iron. Alot of people out on the trail enjoy seeing the old iron coming down the trail and will give you alot of attention just to know about them.

Do some google search about Scorpion Snowmobile, they have quite a history.

Good Luck and Have Fun on them.
