Had a blast! The roughest 300 miles I've put on my Xpedition. Beautiful country, great trails, good people. What more could you ask for.
I think my biggest thrill had to be the mud on trail 8. Our group passed on it Sunday, thinking it was impassable. We rode with Floodrunner and his wife on Monday, and it was the first place we went. I remember sitting at the first mudhole asking what side to take. Floodrunner said "I usually run right through the middle". Then off he went. I must say I was impressed by the sportsman's. All others got hung up on the same unseen obstacle. To make things worse. The one time I needed my Superwinch to perform. It didn't. There's nothing worse than sitting rack deep, feathering the gas to keep the machine running, and messing with the winch. It could have been a disaster. It will have a new use, hanging in the shed to hoist deer.
On Saturday, after the convoy to the big Lake we got initiated to trail 6, at night, in the rain. Lots of new dings to the wheels and 'smash plates'.
Spent $6 at the car wash cleaning in some places 1 inch of caked on mud off my bike. I'm still picking swamp grass off it. I'm not sure how much it will cost to get my clothes clean. Probably the cost of a new washing machine. hehe
Hurley is definately on my schedule for 2001, more than likely sooner.
