I would never (and didn't either) go to a larger diameter tire on my 400, they just plain rob to much torque to the rear wheels and beat up on the top speed.
Isn't that when you would install something along the lines of a Dalton Clutch Kit, to change the gearing?
I have the manual 5 speed, so low gear is plenty deep, it's just that the overall gear ratio change require more torque and horsepower to over come the problem. At least if I ever decide to hot rod, Speedwex is at least starting to make go fast stuff for the Arctic Cat 400.

I am not looking foor a mud tire persay but a good trail tire that does well in mud, I thought the XTR's were the ticket
Reviews on the XTR say it cleans out extremely well, everything I've read says it's exactly what you want. 14" if you ride trails more than mudbog, 12" if you mudbog more than trails.

Yeah, but you never worry about top speed anyway. Heck, if you're worried about speed, ride a sporty, right?
When we rode at China Hat this year I did some speed testing at 5000 feet, to compare to my sea level performance. I lost 9 miles and hour at 5000 feet. I used the same GPS and the quad's speedo showed the same lose. That's a bunch of power gone and if I had 1" taller tires it would have been about 20 percent worse. For the slow trail work I can always use low range and the gear ratio will cover up the torque lose but also cuts top speed by 60 percent, which on the trails is no big deal but then I have to shift out of low range when we hit the roads again. If I had a sportie I would get myself hurt and I just don't heal like I used to.

Just think how nice it's gonna be Sunday at Reiter, calling for sunshine Wednesday through the weekend
Wahoo! Still be lots o' mud. And who's bringing the chainsaw?
I'll Bring my saw but I am not carrying that big **** thing.
I would imagine any tree blocking the road has been cleared since last time you were there. Unless new stuff has fallen.

too many saw carrying rednecks cruise that place for a road or trail to be closed for very long

Originally posted by: RancherATCrazyAgree with yeah there my stockers are 24" and the smallest XTR's they make are 25" so I will just have to eat an inch But I am conserned now about what MB said about self cleaning, Huge lugs are not worth a chit if they are filled with crud all the time.
If you can find some thread that's solid, that mud can't collect in, that might be what you're looking for. But it's not muddy all year long, you're gonna ride alot of dry dusty trails and trails that have just water with hard pack underneath. Just do more research on the XTR's until you find enough negative information that would turn you off to them.

I would hope so, but, those were some pretty big trees laying across the road.
