I got a little muddy this weekend up at Miami. Hey Mike, come on back up...it's not dusty any more. hehehehe. Ended up having to tow my friend's Blaster back to camp several miles. Down one trail. Through several muddy corners... He got a bit muddy back there. lol. Looks like the top end is gone as it has no compression. It's been in for a year, that's it. Without many hours on it.

That place we went this weekend by the Salton Sea was awesome! Everyone really liked it there and we're definitely going back. It's a legal "Public Land" riding area called Mecca Hills / Orocopia Mountains Wilderness Area, and there's even marked trails. It's so huge that the riding is endless. Yesterday all the men went on a ride to that "Hotel California" place I've heard about. The only bummer is that this place is difficult to find. From where we live in Corona, you take the 91 E to the 10 to the 86 to Hwy 195 to Hwy 111. Go down the 111 around 5 miles, and as soon as you pass "SoCo Liquer" store you make a left on Bay Drive, go over some railroad tracks and make the first right on Vanderveer. Then you go through like two miles of neighborhoods (L on Windlass, R on Compass, R on 72nd) until you get to a dirt road that runs alongside a water canal and you make a left. Make a right at the end of the canal and you're there. One of the great things about it is there were very few people there (probably because it's so hidden). It was great riding . . . hills, trails, flat areas, Grand Canyon type winding washes with huge rock walls on both sides of you. It had everything. I've never even heard of it before. It's our new favorite place.

 

Ya I will definetly have to make it up one of these weekends and experience the "no dust factor" lol........

 

When is the best time of the year to hit Oceano Dunes( Pismo )? Anyone going out to Ocotillo Wells this week for veterans and or Thanksgiving?

400...Pismo, as Mike said, is good anytime.

Memorial through Labor Day it's sold out nearly every weekend. Any major 3 day weekend, it's sold out. 1/2 the people there come from roughly the area where I live...Bakersfield north to Modesto, maybe.

April & May is the windy time of the year. 20 MPH winds with 30 gusts is "normal." I've seen trailers fall from wind getting blown out from under them. Winter time activities include Creek Crossings. Full moons bring high tides and washed out cars.

As for Miami, it is off of Highway 41 south of Yosemite, and north of Oakhurst (7mi north actually).

It's about 4000' plus elevation. Right now there's a little bit of snow in the higher areas...4500' probably and some ice over the bridge crossing the creek...hint...don't tap rear brakes...BAD BAD BAD BAD idea.

Unless you LOVE technical nasty trails, you won't like it. Skid plates are mandatory equipment. I'm talking thick aftermarket stuff too. It ate up my stock skid. Now have a 1/8" DG plate on the back end. Though a nice long term stay is nice.

It's about a 15 minute drive to the Yosemite Gate. Views of Wawona are possible if you take a day ride to the west up to Signal Peak (USFS fire tower.) Add another 45 min. to that and you are in the Valley. But if you go after the road opens go to Glacier Pt. AWESOME. (And no, you can't ride in the park...for the most part. I think there are a couple of fringe spots you can say you "rode in Yosemite." There are some other great places to ride around there. Mainly fire roads though.

Well as I said the 21 rst we are going out but now instead of just Gorman, someone brought up the idea of Clear Creek. Anyone ever rode there???

 

B&W, You were correct, a heck of a lot of people from Modesto head to Pismo. 400, as B&W said, the wind is horrendous, And it's usually this way from 12 noon to 6 pm[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img]during April/May. One time we left to town to get out of the wind, came back and the trailer was sitting at a 45 degree angle.
