Default CALIFORNIA Quad Riders report here.....

Kind of a bit off, but I'm trying to get together a good sized group stay up at Miami. First weekend in April (1-3rd). Just wanted to give people a heads up if they wanted to come and were a bit ways off or going to be in the area.

Got back from Ocotillo Wells last weekend. We rode to superstition mountain, it was so awsome. Since there was a alot of rain there, there were so many flowers. Not something you would think there would be at the desert. The temperature was great, a little windy but great.

I have to go over to ocotillo....Ive never been but I hear really good things about that place. Was there any mud or is the place dried out? How long was the ride to superstition mtn? The desert is a really nice place to ride around this time. It doesnt even look like the desert. Everything is green and flowery.

You shouldn't have any problem unless it's REALLY low to the ground. People pull in there with trailers all the time. Even seen a few low car hauler types. The re-gaveled 6S41 (the road you're talking about just past Lewis Creek Trail) back in the spring. Most of it is still left. But I haven't been since the major rains so there could be some , but probably not.

Power: CHAINSAW. Just in case. LOL Maybe not. Wouldn't want a ticket.
Ill put it in my backpack....

I got back from up near California City yesterday. It was great, me and my bro' had a blast until his engine seized on his 250 R. Bummer!
We were only commenting that morning how dependable that thing was. At least it happened as we were going on our last ride before setting off back......woulda really sucked if it had blown just after we got there. I gotta say tho that place is awesome. It's 18.1 miles north of Kramer junction on the 395, you see a sign for Cali. City, turn onto dirt road 100yds on left. Dirt road turns into paved road after 1 mile, another mile after that u see small sign for camp b on right. Lots of fast trails and fireroads. I might be looking for riding buddies if my bro' doesn't get his ride sorted out pretty quick.

Had a good time up at Miami with power, bmw and his buddy.

Someone showed up with this 2-passenger buggy thing. Has like a 150 4-stroke quad motor in it. I know they sell them at the Yamaha dealer I do to. I wanna say something like sidewinder. May be wrong. But pretty cool looking for something to play around on.

Hit a few trails, mapped a bit with the GPS, took some picks and found some snow.

How far are you away from San Diego? It was pretty much dried up. If you wanted to go mud bogging you could but there was no mud to get in the way. Superstition MTN. was 40 miles to and from Holmes camp. My 400EX got there and back without even switching to reserve and I was riding pretty hard, but the 400 is stock so you might want to take some extra gas for you big CC lovers. Superstition is great because it brings terrain from Ocotillo Wells and Glamis together. Oh, if you plan to go out soon take a tarp. It rained only for a short period one night and it was sorta windy, thats if you dont have a toy hauler or something.

We went to Ocotillo the weekend before you did and it was absolutely gorgeous there - perfect weather and no wind at all. I didn't see any mud either, but my son found one spot on accident and got my 400EX stuck in it. He had to get off the quad and pull it out . . . his riding boots were a sight to see after that, caked with 2 inches of mud, not to mention my quad - what a mess!

We were supposed to go to Red Rock Canyon this weekend, but our friend called us from there on Friday and said there was still so much mud that he didn't even want to take a chance crossing it with his motorhome, so he turned around and went to Calico instead (near Barstow). Yikes - what a drive that was! Then we wound up not going at all because hubby had his son (who also wanted to bring his friend) this weekend and the people we were meeting aren't "kid people" and didn't sound too excited about the idea, as I had already predicted, so we didn't go. I can't say I blame them though - I prefer to take the kids only when there's going to be other kids there - not to "adult" riding trips.
