I found this site and think it's great, wanted to say hi to all.

The atv community as a whole seems like a good bunch of people as represented here.

Since my family is new to the scene I would appreciate some input on where to ride not to far from home (Corona, CA) to get us started. My quad is a green sticker Kawi, but my boys bikes are red sticker Kazumas

I will get some pics of the family and the quads up soon, if it ever stops raining!!!!!

Tens of thousands of people, unbelievable rails and drag bikes...and still enough room to claim some virgin dunes as your own. Camped at wash 13.5 with some really good people. The next big trip is Jawbone canyon April 1 but will return to Glamis again and again, no matter how far the drive. You will always leave staring out into the huge dunes on the way out with the biggest s&%t eating grin on your face for hours afterwards.
sorry it a catbox

Hello, we're not too far off from Corona, only about 10 miles north up the I-15. For short day trips we like to go to Stoddard Wells. It's up the I-15 between Victorville and Barstow. Its a huge area with lots of varied terrain for all age groups. Our family of riders spans from 4 years old to 47 years young. Theres' lots of staging areas at Stoddard Wells, and you can access it from sevearl different exits. We like to get off the 15 at Dale Evans Parkway and head to Stoddard Welsl Road. There's everything from the Slash X cafe to an ostrich farm nearby. From where we like to stage there's some great wide open, flat trails perfect for the 4 year old (and us forty somethings) to really, really nsaty stuff for those 20 year olds.

OUr vehilces have both green and red stickers and we've never had a problem riding "out of season" - excpet that by that time it's too hot to ride anyway. The red sticker season at Stoddard Wells ranges from October to April, so there's no problem.

From the Fontana area it takes us about 45 minutes (towing a trailer) to get to the Dale Evans Exit. If we get there by 9-10 am, we're usually ready to go home by about 3. We usually go for a day, but we just bought a new toy hauler so our first overnite will be in two weekends. Other family members have spent the night there and loved it.

As teh saying goes, try it , you'll like it . . . keep us posted.

Proraptor: I couldn't help but think about you over the weekend, oh man! Sorry you didn't have a good time. It never stopped pouring in Corona all weekend either. We wanted to go out so bad, but knew there was no way in that rain. We were so f-ing bored all weekend, we were going nuts! This coming weekend we're going somewhere FOR SURE! Maybe Ocotillo Wells.

As we drove south on the 15 fwy on Sunday, just across from the Lake Elsinore Outlet stores (Nichols exit), we noticed a bunch of quads and dirtbikes riding in the hills just off the freeway. We drove over there to check it out, but I have a feeling this place isn't "legal". Does anyone know? We didn't see any "no trespassing" signs, nor were there any signs saying it's ok to ride there. We were shaking our heads in disbelief actually when we noticed several families out there riding, including many children . . . all with NO helmets or safety gear of any kind on them, not even so much as a pair of gloves, and many were riding double on quads . . . S-t-u-p-i-d! There were a lot of other people out there too that looked like seasoned riders (with safety gear), which is what made me wonder if it's legal there.

Ridinfolks, No it is not legal. But it is not enforced fully. Many locals ride there from their house so they could go home quick when the cops show up.

Doorguy, El Mirage Dry lake is fun and legal. Although, if there is water on the lakebed you can't ride on it.
Johnson Valley is a blast. It is a very large area to ride, and they have a patch of sand dunes!

Hi RF, I live just North of there in Horsethief Canyon. I'm no expert, but I am pretty sure the area you are talking about is private property, owned by the clay & gravel company there off of Temescal Rd. They own a LOT of the empty land out there which they are selling off little by little to developers. I have seen riders out there before also and wondered what the deal is. As far as I can figure people ride out there without permission, but the owner just kinda looks the other way. I've lived in this area for about 3 years, my neighbors that have been here longer tell me this has gone on for a long time though. Pretty stupid on their part considering the liability issue of letting those people ride on their land, especially with the disregard for safety you saw.

Since I live like 2 miles from there I wish it was legal, but I'm not going to push my luck.

Thanks for the info Happy. I noticed there were no RV's, just trucks for a quick getaway. I figured it wasn't legal.

I hear ya Doorguy - We won't take chances riding anywhere that's not legal anymore. As I'm sure you know, everyone also rides in that area just off the fwy at Weirick Rd. We used to go there now and then, but almost got busted once so we don't go there anymore. Thank goodness we were already packing up when the cops arrived so they let us go without the fines they were giving everyone else, whew! It's too bad because we like being able to ride through the water there and it's SO close to us, darn it! We live near the 91 & Lincoln area.

How old are your sons? We're always looking for other folks to ride with - especially when my husband has his 13 year old son every other weekend.

My boys are; 12, 10 and 5, whew!!! We would love to join you riding when we can (as soon as we buy a trailer). My wife and sons are complete novices and I'm pretty rusty myself, but we are ready for the rain to stop so we can get going. Besides my yards are a flooded mess, my kids are bouncing off the walls and my dogs stink.

I think we will try getting out to Stoddard Wells to start with, (again, as soon as we buy a trailer). Any suggestions on a trailer I would appreciate it, seems that everybody (ie. Carson Trailer, AZTex, etc) are out about 4 weeks for trailers. They have nothing on their lots that isn't sold.

Thanks for the info Happy, I appreciat it. I found El Mirage on a map, where is Johnson Valley? Mapquest didn't know what I was talking about, surprise surprise

Sounds good - we'll have to get together for a ride. We usually stay for the whole weekend with the RV though. I think we got our trailer at AZtex . . . we had to wait too, but only for a week (that was over a year ago). We ordered ours with a double-axle and the ramp. They seemed to be the least expensive - we checked everywhere. My husband modified it himself later with a side-entry for his quad to make it easier to load when we have a full trailer.
