JAWBONE - PRESIDENTS DAY WEEKEND
#1
We're heading to Jawbone for the first time on President's Day Weekend.
Anyone else going that way during this particular weekend?
Any advice as to "where to camp & ride?"
Should it be a busy weekend for riding?
Which is better - Jawbone or Dove Springs?

I'm replying to my own post - oh well -
I am now wondering if anyone goes to ride in Jawbone.
It looks, from the lack of posts, that no one goes to Jawbone for the Presidents' Day Holiday weekend. Therefore, my friends and I might have the the whole place to ourselves! That could be a good thing . . . who knows...
Hoping for some good weather for riding. If so, will try to post some pictures when we get back.

We went last year for Presidents' Day holiday. This year we are heading to Pismo.
Loved it down in Jawbone . . . was back there again at Thanksgiving. Thoroughly enjoyed the seemingly unlimited riding!

duh !! my bad. forgot were in 2006 now. sorry about that. since I got your attention, did you find any good camping places out at Jawbone. I would like take up some room so my young one can ride without being trampled.. and at the same time be centralized enough to access the different trails. any recommendations?

We've camped at 2 places... one down by the big black pipe (down to the left, off the road), as there is a nice big cement slab. We could park & camp around it. Made a great place for the kids to play when they were not riding.
Also, we've camped up just past the black pipe on the right, near one of their camping areas. It was near a hill that seemed to interest the motorcycle riders, yet we were going up & down the hill with our quads as well. I don't really think that there is really any bad place to park/camp/ride. People are all over!
As for riding, we went out on a 5 hour ride and had a blast! The trails just kept going and going and going and going . . . . . . .

Jawbone is located North of the town of Mojave California by approx. 20mi. excellent place to ride if you enjoy endless trails, riding to historical locations or hill climbs. There are no real campgrounds here however, so you will be camping in open land. which means no water and only 4 bathroom facilities scattered throughout.

Hey Guys,
Seen all the posts about jawbone..if you don't feel like camping....Ridgecrest (Home sweet home) is about 30 min. up HWY. 14 Lots of motels and places to eat. Also, If you take the Garlock ..(Spelling) Cut-off to HWY. 395 head North about 4 miles up the hill you can take Searles Station Cut-Off (Sign says Trona 28?mi. ---> to Spangler Hills aka Charlies Place. You can camp anywhere in that valley around the Railraod Tracks or go to the end of the Searls Station Cut-Off and go left or right on Red Mountain Rd. All open camping...they hold Dez races out there...If you were coming up HWY. 395 when you get out of Red Mountain make the curve and the first right is Red Mountain Rd/Cut-Off...Pretty much from there to HWY. 178 (approx. 20mi.) Is all open camping. If you take HWY. 178 (Right) East Through Trona or even stop.... North of the Inyo County Line is all open BLM land (For the most part gotta get about 8 miles out to get away from peoples houses (Very Few))...Anyway out of Trona(Searles Valley)...down into Panamint Valley there is all kinds of riding that can be done and not see much of anybody...even on busy weekends..........Now that was a long direction...basically there is so much open land to ride on up here it is not even funny.......Safe Riding
