Were you riding the trails on the WI side of the river, the MN side of the river, or both? I've done a lot of snowmobile riding on the WI side in that area, and have ridden the ATV on the MN side of the river a couple of times.

We went on the MN side of the trail. Lots of fun and good mud there. If anyone wants to set up some rides please let me know. I am pretty new to this so dont know the trails around here.

We had a blast when I brought my kids up there on their dirt bikes. One of the times we were there it was pretty wet and my 11 year old was covered head-to-toe in mud - he couldn't stop smiling for a week. I'd like to head up there to do some riding, but I think my fall season is pretty filled up working on a new hunting shack. Maybe sometime next year...

Hey Hammond, My boys and I rode the trails from Birchwood Wi north and around lake Chetek on friday for the first time. I'd rate them 10 times better than the trails on the Wi side north of Danbury. We are more into challanging rocky/hilly/muddy trails than high speed sand. Took us over 6 hours to go just over 50 miles! My youngest boys 90 only goes 30 mph though. we'd love to hook up and go riding with a group sometime! We mostly go riding near our hunting cabin up in Iron county Wi, but thats almost 4 hours away. Dan.

Hey guys, This is my first tread... I live in Hudson and I am always looking for people to go riding with. I don't know why but it's hard to find people in the area that like to ride. It would be nice to get at least one more good ride in before the snow flies. I am 37 and married with 2 kids. My style of riding is more trail and mud, I have a 2004 grizzly (modified) and a 2004 prairie 700 (stock).
Send me a line and lets go riding...

Regards,
Keith

I don't think MN requires any special permits for out-of-state ATVs, but check the DNR Regulations.

I would guess that the drive from Eau Claire to Danbury would be about 2.5 hours - not real bad. You should be able to take Hwy 53 North most of the way, and then start heading west when you get to Spooner.

I've been on the trails when they were very wet (some big puddles) and when they were dry - it really depends on the weather. No big mud holes, though, if that is what you are after.

Some parts of the trail were covered with rocks varying from baseball to volleyball size. Those sections were a little tougher for the kids on their XR70 dirt bike.
