I think the plan is to go up Fri afternoon/evening, ride some, camp, then ride Sat before going back. Camping out Sat is optional.

In my ignorance, I had no idea where Oakland, MD, was! You're just barely IN Maryland, aren't you?

I've never driven the entire distance across Route 50/220, but the segment around Winchester appears to be a pretty good road; if I were you, coming from the west, I'd come 50/220; take the Route 37 bypass at Winchester south to Interstate 81, then exit at Edinburg for Route 11 north, Route 675 east to the trailhead; if I wanted to join the revelers at Little Fort, I'd exit at Woodstock, take Route 11 North, turn right on Mill Street, and then climb the mountain over Old Stage Coach and Woodstock Tower Roads, turning right at the fork after crossing the summit to reach Little Fort Recreation Area (the latter is a twisty, steep route over a graded road).
