Plant rice instead of hay....hey? lol Here's a picture of what Michigan will look like soon, from all those monsoon's the states s of here are getting....New State welcoming center sign, above the freeway....Come on up to Michigan, before you all drawn lol All kidding asside, it is the worst rain/floods/tornadoes I can remember!
You'll be getting blisters soon, if you haven't already, and after those blisters pop that's when you need to keep your fingers CLEAN!! but ''don't bandage'' unless you need to touch something, because once bandaged bacteria has a breeding ground, just keep them clean/dry, but it's going to be weeks before they heal completely, I know first hand, where my Iguana bit my fingers 2 weeks ago, and their just now healing back, good luck thru the process!
we are getting hammered with rain again.....expecting more than 2" by friday morning! The big boat ramp in Point Place is closed because of excess high water, up into parking lot! Many marinas are not open as there docks are under water. My pond is 2' above normal, the overflow was cut off by a neighbor down the road that build a hugh pond, they cut all the drainage tiles which is against twp rules but nothing is being done about it. With this nasty clay the water doesnt soak in, just lays there and makes slippery mud when you try to go thru it. Like driving on ice! Gonna have to fit a mowing deck to the SxS in order to get thru it.
Yea, the farm field across the road looks like a lake and it was retiled just 2 yrs ago. We are high and dry as far as everything working (septic system) , the stone drive is full of pot holes filled with water. Can only mow parts of the yard...very frustrating just watching rain....need to get away and do some ridin!
So many tornadoes everywhere too! People are taking the warnings much more seriously now, which is saving lives! Be glad when this monsoon season is out of here!
Speaking of storms, I built a high winds safe place years ago, if ever needed, over 3' below ground, in our 20' dia pond area, originally dug for a, in the ground pool, which was dismantled 20 yrs ago, that left this crater in our backyard lol, so instead of filling it in, I decided to landscape it for a pond, for my turtles and Iguanas grass hut, and a sort of rustic outback seating area for us lol We have a small 5' vinyl pond with fountain/waterfall, in the middle of the pond lower level. I shored up the 20' dia pond side walls with wolmanized 5/4 decking to eliminate the dirt from washing in, then thought of erecting a simple, tornado bunker, that is totally out of sight and you wouldn't even know its there, unless it was searched for, hidden in thick pond grass, that gets 8' + high. The bunker is made of 2 4x4 uprights with beam attached acrosses the top, tight against the west pond wall, still below ground, yet easy access to quickly dive into, and also gives something to hold onto if high winds try pulling/vacuuming/sucking us out lol, Good to have since we have no basement to head to, near us! Hopefully we'll never need it, but this area we live in, is just a couple miles, due east of metro airport, with its treeless 15 sq mile openness! Has our neighborhood known as Tornado alley, allowing storms to build even stronger, with little resistance! We've been lucky, tornadoes have ripped thru here many times, taking roofs off, all around us, seen first hand evidence myself, looking up thru the center of one of the tornadoes, while running for cover, when it bounced over our house, hitting homes on all sides, with large oak trees twisted into matchsticks! Keeping everyone around here on edge, every time a warning is announced, or dark clouds form quickly!

We have a basement sort of, we built the basement on top of the ground, poured reinforced concrete, then put the house on top of that. Backfilled all around (from our pond) so it appears to be half way into the ground. We have 3 large windows and walk out french doors so it really is not below grade but appears that way. The actual basement floor is 16" below original grade, so we do have a safe area for severe weather. Have had 2 tornadoes here in 20 yrs, 1st one was cosmetic damage, not a direct hit, but 2nd one lifted the rear half of the roof off the house.
Severe weather is bad enough, but this continous rain is driving me crazy, all around us looks like a lake and we are on an island. Never saw this much standing water in 20 yrs. Ditches are running like small rivers, if I still had my kayak I could go white water rafting just across the street! Many of ur drain tiles run into this ditch, but the water pressure is so great that water is being forced back into our drain tiles and creating big sink holes in our yard. One is 3' in dia and almost 4' deep. Two others are growing each time we get these heavy rains. Better go work on the Ark, might need it before long!
Taking off for this weekend to visit #1 son in Seattle, but when I get back Monday, I hope to hear some good news, about a trip up to St Helen, and to try out these new Garmin maps!!! Small window here since In a few weeks, it will be way too hot humid up there to camp, been there done that, not a good trip!! Get ready, rain is finally out of here!!
Doc is still working on wifes arm issue, went for some Xrays yesterday, she may have another disc issue in her back, right above the 3 she had repaired last summer. Wont know more until mri is done. Taking MH into shop for generator repair today, hope to have it back in a week so they say??? Still raining, entire area is looking like a swamp. Cant win, hoping this year was gonna be a good one!
Good luck with all that! Things have got to get better, when it rains....At least it's starting to dry up, finally, been a long winter, and now this, better days ahead!
