jpoggi,
Cedar Creek is tight, whooped out and full of trees. We are trying to get our representatives to talk about this problem; but they seem more interested in 'grooming' old trails out their back door and building new trails near 'Detroit'.
Wish we had more to offer you here in West MI.; but we can't even get the 'big city riders' to lend us any of their training quads for our kids to use (but hey, when those quads get a few years old; we just might be able to buy a $100 raffle ticket and maybe 'win' one!).
Have fun in the sand and enjoy everything 'else' western MI. has to offer....................namely, none of the east side attitude and all of the beautiful towns and good people, up and down our coast.

Well, If you have to wait for a long time, we might just go over to cedar creek for the first weekend, then go to the dunes monday....depends on weather too. Actually, I thought that cedar creek wasn't all that bad. The trails had their rough spots, but overall in good condition last thanksgiving. That could have changed since people have been riding snowmobiles on them over the winter, but hey, trails are trails. And the thing I noticed is that they aren't crowded either. I 'll go find the link to the ATV portion of the Michigan DNR website and post it in another thread.

Grand rapids is the second largest city in this state and the Cedar creek trails are almost as close as the 18 mile White Cloud trail to this high population area. (which gets 'relatively' little use also).
While I appreciate your shared view w/others that (infrequently) ride these trails; I was merely trying to save you any disappointment and maybe explain why such a 'large' population of riders have been traditionally ignoring this system (kind of hard to get excited about something that isn't even safe for your kids......see Little 'O' trail).
Also, I do know that I can get very vocal on the conditions of these trails.
We have a 'big city club' who has consistently refused to speak publicly to their condition and are attempting to convince the state that our sport needs 'groomers'; which don't have a chance in heck of getting down these trails (but can get down the trails closest to suburban Detroit). What's worse, is they would like to 'further' ignore these problems and build themselves a Detroit riding area with 'groomed' trails all around it. Problem is, nobody wants a 'state of the trail system' review brought forth; as the amount of work that needs to be done on Cedar creek and many other MI. trails like it; would DWARF 'their' pet projects in a heartbeat and (embarrasingly) then allow their requests to be seen for what they are.
Great trail to 'putt along' on...... and if you don't smuck a tree; all the better.
Hope you have a good time there and you might not know that there is a fairly large convenience/grocery store in Twin Lake, across M-120 and back on a side street (you can see the backside of it from the road).
By the way, you might want to jump on 31 (North) to 10 (east) and do the Little Manistee, Lincoln Hills or Tin Cup. Extremely whooped out in mid-season; but it is an easy drive away and attracts a lot of the Silver Lake crowd. Also, the Club 37 restuarant is accessible from the trail and had decent food the last time we visited.
