Hey all, just wanted to let ya know that the Smelterville ride is on BLM and private land, no issues with the Forest Service is what I'm told. I checked with the guys at the Wheel last night, so bring the Rhinos if ya like.

So whats everyones plan for Smelterville?
Who is going?
Where is everyone meeting? At smelterville? If so where? What time? Or caravaning from Spokane to smelterville?
I plan to go on the ride. I may have a friend tagging along also.
Would like to meet some of the folks here!

Anyone out there know of any places to ride in Western Montana? On the maps there looks like numerous "good" places. I have never been out there to ride. I have been told that there are quite a few restrictions in that state to ATV's.

From the Spokesman Review... Thursday Apr 27..
Amazing.. Wonder if the City council is going dictate what color I paint my house also..
So does this mean I cant use my ATV to plow snow in my driveway? Or others to use it around their house or property for chores?
City Council moves to ban ORVs inside the city

Spokane Valley is a step closer to making off-road vehicle use illegal inside the city after the City Council pushed ahead a proposal to ban them in residential neighborhoods and look at similar measures for business property.
At its regular meeting Tuesday, the council unanimously voted to move the ordinance to a second reading. If approved, all recreational vehicle riding on private residential property would have to end in six months, said Cary Driskell, deputy city attorney.
Residents in a Spokane Valley neighborhood brought the issue before the council last September. They had spent months trying to persuade law enforcement and the city's building department to shut down a small motocross track one of their neighbors had built in his back yard, only to find out that the track was legal.
At an earlier meeting, the track's owner said he bought his large lot with the track in mind so he could build a safe place for his kids to ride. Noise levels don't exceed legal limits, he said, and he feels he's within his rights as a property owner.
Homeowners around him, though, contend the noise and dust from the motorbikes is a nuisance and shouldn't be allowed in a city neighborhood.
So far, the council has sided with the neighbors. And if the measure goes forward, people violating it would face code enforcement provisions like those used to clean up junk cars and other property nuisances.
Business owner and incorporation advocate Dick Behm suggested at a recent meeting that the ban be extended to business and industrial property.
"Just to eliminate them in the residential areas, they are going to go somewhere else in the city," he said Tuesday.
Spokane Valley Mayor Diana Wilhite said she didn't want to delay the residential ordinance by extending it, but she instructed city staff to study a similar ordinance for other zones.

Yep, his attitude was the whole problem. When I pulled up and parked I got out of the truck and he was walking by his first words to me were "You got a legal permit for this year for that?" instantly putting me on the defensive. Now I know my people skills are somewhat lacking, but even I know the first thing you say to a total stranger should be something like "Good morning", or "Nice day for a ride", not something that accuses you of lawbreaking. He could have diffused that whole situation with just a less offensive demeanor. Then he follows us all the way in and while people are having lunch he is walking around their quads with a note pad writting stuff down. That tells me that the FS (since he is representing them) considers us all to be criminals that have to be baby sat and are just itching for a chance to break the law. Granted there are some of us that fit that description, but I am getting a little tired of their attitude towards all of us. I plan on being at the meeting.

I would assume by permit he was referring to your off road sticker?

Yes, he was looking at my old sticker. I had my new sticker in the truck but hadn't had a chance to put it on yet. Of course if he would have waited until I had started to unload he wouldn't have had to ask. I was surprised that he didn't ask about insurance, he has asked about that in the past.

Pastor- According to the Rangers in Hungry Horse " if your'e "street legal" mirror, horn, illuminated license plate(Idaho will work) you have access to all ungated forest service roads. As far as trails, as long as it is 2 track or wider you can use them. That covers a whole lot of country." Also there is some Plum Creek land between hwy 200 and hwy 2 that looks very interesting but didnt want to bother the hunters last fall so I havent explored too deeply back there. Hwy 200 out of Sandpoint , turn north around trout creek (east of Noxon) Paved road goes around the backside turns into gravel F.S road connecting to hwy 2 at Mcginnis Meadows Rd. Just west of Thompson lake. If you have a MT map you can find this with no problem. Theres a little campground by a lake back in there too sorry cant remember the name. I was planning on checking out this area this weekend but my daughter had a play at school on Friday I didnt want too miss, so the expedition got scrubbed. Might want to let the snow melt at the top anyway. some of those roads go pretty tall, nice cliffs on the side.

I am new to this internet site but a long time rider. Pastor, if you go to the same hwy 200 out of sandpoint turn left at Trestle creek. Sorry don't know the road # or name but it says snowmobile access or something. you can't miss it there are only like 2 left hand turns in little Trestle Creek. That will open up to miles and miles of roads and trails. There is a lake up there called Porcupine that is pretty shallow but I've caught dinner out of it. It is pretty high up in elevation and is only able to be accessed around mid June-July due to having to cross a couple of spring rivers/summer creeks. You can try but I have found that any earlier than that it's pretty hairy my truck not to mention trying to navigate through it on a wheeler.
I am a female that own's her own four wheeler and I'm looking forward to meeting new people and riding new trails. I just sent off my app for the North Idaho atv Association and will see you guys at the meeting on the 9th. I figure it's time to get involved in something before they strip every last right I have as a rider. It's starting to **** me off.
