Default Raptor Big bore

Hey fellas, I could use some input. The time has come to turn my 03 raptor into the beast it should be. The only problem is who/where to take the girl. I have heard great things about bob at craycraft, harry at trinity, and also some good info about sparks and a few others.

I am looking into a 686 or so bore, as i have heard about a lot of reliability problems as you go to 727. I would expect a high comp piston, and some other things as well. Kit or turn key, I am interested in both. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I want to have this done for the winter ice racing series, about november or december, so i have a little time to decide. Thanks for the help everyone.

I actually just heard one. A guy, I forget his sn, sent his speed in and it came back dropping valves. I dont know that it was ever resolved, but I have not heard much else on the bad side.

I have a Robertson 727 and have had no reliability issues and we're over the infamous 70 hp mark. I guess it's all what you wanna spend. There is alot of great motor packages Robertson sells. 660 port polish, GEN I 673 light port and polish, 686 port and polish, Gen II 727 light port and polish and then Gen III 727 with all the goodies.
Good luck with your decision. I'm sure whatever builder you choose you'll be happy, there is alot of good ones out there.

If you don't want to spend the money or the time to send your engine across the country, there is a local option. There is a company called 4 Wheel Thunder (248-669-9660, www.4wt-online.com) that is in one of the suburbs of Detroit. Maybe Clarkston. Here is their advertisement -

"686 Raptor Big Bore" - high compression piston, cam, porting, valve grind, sleeve, gaskets, installation. $699

You would have to call them to find out what type of cam, piston, etc. are included for that price. I don't know of anyone who has used their shop for 4 strokes, but I know they have a good reputation of building really fast Banshees. I also heard from them that they did some of the R+D work for the Dyna FS for the Raptor before it was available to the public.

Just another less expensive option to consider!
