how do i take the cable off

A pinched cable sounds likely to me so I agree with the guys above. My 2001 warrior clutch is pretty smooth. A couple of Warriors I looked at before I bought mine had really stiff clutches though .. but they were slightly older .. a 1990 and a "supposedly" 1999.
