Default Need a new stator, what are my options???

Well I thought I had a bad CDI, but it turns out it is the stator. It is $230 at my local rip off dealer. Does anyone know where I can get a better deal on the yamaha stator?? Is there an aftermarket stator at a good price?? Also, any tips on installing it, I have not really done much work with them before, last I did was put a magneto in an old 2 stroke...

Rocky Mountain Atv had some aftermarket stators. I am not sure what the price was on it. It did put out more power so it would be upgrading.

I can't remember 100%, but when you pull the side cover there is a clamp that holds the stator wires off of the fly wheel. This clamp bolts directly into the case with two allen screw. Both of the screws broke off with me when I took them out to polish my side case. They have some loctite on the from the factory. I would try whatever I could to loosen the loctite before I took the clamp off. OR (this is the part I can't remember) if possible just see if you can bend the clamp to pull the wires through.

Will I need a flywheel puller once I get in there?? I tried calling RickyStator, but the line was busy, so I just emailed him. I don't know if I wanna trust the one on RockyMountain's site. Is there anyone who fixes bad stators?? Maybe thats an option.

Ricky Stator might be able to fix you up. I dont know his site but he used to fix all kinds of stators, rewires, starters and that kind of stuff. If you want new OEM, contact bob @ 877-243-3337. He will give you a good price on it.

Thanks for the help guys, I found a good deal on a new OEM unit! What do you think would cause a stator to go out? I would think it should last alot longer then a year and a half.... I am only running stock lighting and thats barely even on. I can't figure out why it went!!

I have a ricky stator Raptor stator. It was $125 and it has 30% more power than a stock stator. Those two bolts broke off of mine when they came off, too.

Nope, all you will need is: oil (you have to drain it), an 8mm socket/wrench, an allen wrench I think ( I can't remember what size), and the gasket for the side case.

Another tip, don't take the cover off of the end of the starter. You can just unbolt the starter and take it off with the case. This will save you a gasket and reusing that one has caused a couple people some problems leaking.
