in case it would help to determine how fast my blaster can go, im 150 lbs and im running stock 21"tires. also, do you think it would make a difference if i took off the front fenders?

I dont think the issue is can a 40hp Blaster go that fast, but should it go that fast. 80 on a Blaster would probably be the danger level and feels like equivalent of 103 on a LT500.

I will tell you the same thing that I constantly tell my friend who rides a Blaster and asks similar questions. A Blaster is a great quad to start on but when you’re ready to go high performance the first thing you need to do is step up to a superior machine.

what exactly do you mean by "danger level"? i mean i understand that it wasnt meant to go that fast, but thats in stock form. do you think things would feel any safer with the +4 swingarm and +2 front a-arms and +4 rear axle? also, would you consider a lowering kit for high speed stability or is that usually just for flat track racing?

By danger level, I refer to the likelihood of any small bump or mistake causing you to lose control and at that speed break a variety of bones.

Widening and lengthening the quad will help but #1 the Blaster would still be shorter and narrower than most quads even with the mods you listed and #2 it would cost less just to upgrade to a better quad. My total investment in my 91 LT is 1500$, it could be made to do 80 with my current mods, would do so much safer than a Blaster and could retain a respectable low end. Just doesn’t make sense to spend more for less.

I don’t see why anyone would even want to go 80 on a quad. My LT500 will probably do it with the throttle pinned but it will be rare that I actually go that fast. On my LT250s, it never even crossed my mind to do that. I actually geared the 86 down so it would only do 60, but I could outrun everyone I ride with until top end.

"I don’t see why anyone would even want to go 80 on a quad. " - TomM

because its fun! lol, i know a lot of people dont get to ride their quad that fast but it sure as he!! is fun. i dont plan on going 80 through a bunch of tight trails, but i do think its a blast to go fast out on wide open rolling dunes or down by the beach (where its legal). plus i want to up the gearing a bit for the dunes, because stock, im using 3rd for all my hillclimbs and its revving too high, it wants to go faster, but if i take it in 4th it lugs and slows down. plus it would seem a little bit of a waste to me to get this 40hp kit and not gear up even a little.

quadzilla was clocked at 81 mph in 1990 by the staff of 3 and 4 wheel action and dirt wheel. in stock trim out of the box. one of the most impressive quad ever was the tecate 250 kawasaki who was clocked at more than 71 mph!!! and stock banshee will do at max with the wind on the back 73 mph! but average closer to 71 mph top speed. i know i had three of them. a stock banshee is a very average machine. it needs some mods to really wake its bottom end.

boy, you guys sure dug this thread out of its grave. i started this thread like 3 days after i joined the forum. anyway, the kit i was talking about is the CT racing ultimate 240 kit, according to them it puts out about 40 hp (check out the link toward the top of this thread). i gave up on it though when i found out how much it would cost to get the rest of the bike up to par with the engine, and i just got a shee instead.

necronomicon - a big part of top speed is rider weight. i only weigh 145 lbs. so i think my shee can pull me to a higher top speed than somebody that weighs 250lbs, dont you? theres a lot of claimed top speed variations on every bike, because no two tests are the same. some happen at different elevations, sometimes the bike isnt set up perfectly, sometimes the rider rides into the wind, sometimes away from it, and sometimes the rider weighs 145 pounds and sometimes he weighs 250. the average top speed ive heard for a banshee is somewhere between 72-76 mph, depending on conditions.
