yes it may be nessecary to run race gas with very high compression like when your port and polish or chave yyour head. all depends if your compression is over about 170.
degree key helps a lot on low end.

I have heard that putting a degree key on a blaster isnt even noticable. Is it true that you would only notice on somthing like a banshee? I had considered doing a degree key but have doubts at to it being a waste of money.

A port & polish and milled head will buy you quite a bit of power. You can mill your head as much as .035 (150-155 psi compression) and still run premium pump gas. From what I have read a degree key will offer a 2.5 hp increase (on the bottom end). You can also just bore out the flywheel mounting screw holes to the left a couple of millimeters (rotate flywheel clockwise) and accomplish the same thing. My blaster has been ported and the head is milled and I have noticed a big power gain on the top end.

porting adds about 8 hp but its not cheap, always use yamalube, never the cheap stuff, theres a big difference. as for more power, i think they make a stroker crank which will add alot more power. i sold my blaster, it was a great quad but i just got too big for it and i needed more power and better handleing so i bought a 400ex for $1300 and sold my 92 blaster for $1250 and i dont regret it, it was a great starter quad but it got old after about 2 months and i had to have something better. good luck with yours but you WILL get tired of it

its a real clean and high octane gas, usually 105-110 octane. Normal gas is like 85 lowend and 92 premium. it burns more violently.
