Default Helmets? yes or No

i'm guilty of not wearing one when i'm dinkin' around, checking this or that, making sure everything's ready for the ride. on the trail tho, i always wear the lid. chicks dig hat-head a lot more than a veg-head who needs his a$$ wiped and colostomy emptied.

First let me say, your a F-in IDIOT. You're STUPID! DUMB! But, the good news is you are a wise person 50% of the time! Think of the improvement you can make!

The shelfish reason some of us preach is that, if I run into someone that isn't wearing a helmet and they die from the injury how am I going to feel for the rest of my life? Wasn't my fault you weren't wearing a helmet but I can't easily dismiss it. Doesn't take me a second to look at some Jiggelies and then we ran into eachother. There are plenty of dune areas where cresting a dune you cannot see over the other side. I have seen the results of rails going over the crest and someone was on the other side (not wearing a helmet.) Man, this pisses me off just to think about it. You are also selfish because when you go to the hospital the environmentalist now have more ammo to say this sport is dangerous. If you had been wearing your helmet you wouldn't be at the hospital!

Yes, I am selfish and so are you for only thinking of yourself when you don't wear a helmet. I also think smokers are selfish as they don't think about the cost our health care system incures because they need a smoke. But, as long as we can tax them to pay for the strain they cause on our health care system then let them light a whole pack at a time. Just don't blow it in my face.

If you get in an accident and as you are being helped to an ambulance you hear some guy yelling about how stupid you are becaus you weren't wearing a helmet that may be me.

Frends don't let friends ride without helmets!

Well folks. it looks like the score is running about 99 to 1 in favor of wearing the ol' skid lid. Now, if we all just follow our own advice and wear em till it hurts... Oh yeah, one more reason to wear them... the cops can't identify you with a helmet on.... Just because your helmet "Looks" like the guy who was doing donuts in your neighbors prized azelea garden, does not mean it was you if you catch my drift... Actually, it was a baseball bat, every window of some dudes car, and a snowmobile... but that is another story.... the result was the same... the Sheriff dude said the "Owner" of the car couldn't identify the rider cause he had a full face helmet with a dark shield... so he figured we were even...

Any way, I think this is one thread that is time to put to bed... Be safe! and teach others to do the same.

good post D, but this topic needs to stay alive and maybe some riders will too.
i won't preach and since i don't ride with morons without a helmet, (morons with a helmet is another topic altogether....) i don't give a rat's a$$ if they want to splatter their gourd all over the terra firma. i figure they're just self-cleaning the gene-pool for the rest of humanity. sure, it sux that they give the sport a bad name and insurance rates rise and enviros have more ammunition against our hobby, but hey, whadaya gonna do?.

Not one good reason has been posted to not wear a helmet. Yet every time i ride there are plenty without them on.

#1 reason not to wear a helmet- "I want to see what my brains look like splattered in front of me." There, you happy?

My helmet saved my life....no kidding! I cracked it from front to back and still got knocked out cold and suffered a concusion but without that thing I wouldn't be writing this today I can assure you.

A good friend of mine lost her father because he was not wearing his helmet. He was out riding with his nephew and lost control of his quad flipping over a steep hill. He died from head injuries...gee how surprising. They were miles away from camp so his nephew had to drag his body up the hill and somehow managed to ride him back to camp on his quad. I wasn't there but I know it was a horrific scene for all and it has scarred many. It was his choice and he made it. Too bad everyone he left behind had to suffer so much for his ignorance. But hey it was his choice right?

Helmets can kill as well as save. Being a biker all my life if have followed alot of the reading in the bike mags on just this topic. They can hang you with the chin stap just like a hangmans noose. They can interfer with your hearing, important on the highway. They can interfer with you side vision also important on the highway. They also can give you a false sense of security, like nothing can hurt you. Who does any real testing of helmet quality. No one wants to because of liabiaty issues. If helmets are a guarrenteed life saver, how come after KY reapealed its helmet law motorcycle deaths decreased?
I'm not telling anyone not to wear one or wear one. And I sure don't need any one telling me to wear one or not to wear one. I have been riding for 31 years and I am pretty sure with this much experence I can make a decision for myself without some safteycrat political tree hugger telling ME what to do. They need to mind their own business and not try to save me from myself!

shastadog...

I've heard that same argument before and think it has about as much validity as those who claim seat belts kill people. I strongly believe the argument for wearing a helmet is far superior to that of not wearing one. You are certainly entitled to your opinion and I won't say anything negative about you because of it. After all, you are an adult and capable of forming your own ideologies. And I'm certainly no left-wing, liberal, tree hugger so I'm not out to take anyone's rights away. I'm just glad my parents forced me to wear one when I was young and thought I was bulletproof...with or without a helmet. I'm pretty sure my head wouldn't have held up as well as some of my past helmets.
