Helmets? yes or No
#41
I always wear a helmet, and i wont ride with anybody that doesnt wear one. I witnessed a helmet save my friends life ,thats all it took too convince me that you should always wear a helmet. People can say its their choice or its just as dangerous driving a car or whatever. I noticed most of the people who dont swear by helmets on here are the straight line riders or drag racers. To those i say ride ***** out ripping through the woods passing trees and stuff going 40plus mph on rough terrain,or tackle a moto track, then see if ya change your mind,I just hate seeing people getiing hurt when they ride, thats all

"wearing a helmet with a loose strap is like wearing a condom with a hole in it, it dont do you any facking good!!"
thats what the small engine repair teacher taught his students...
ya i always have mine on.. unless i am dubbing in the yard and dont plan on going fast.

sooooo,,,,,,14mins,
Do you think people should wear helmets or not.
Seems like you are leaning towards not......
I really wish I had a helmet that fit over my entire body.
I dont like getting hurt/scraped up/bloody. I try and play it safe any way I can!!!!!
Helmets work great for mountain riding.

Mine saved my life once , while I was screwing around in the yard.
I really dont see how you could ride without one ,my helmets look pretty beat up after a hundred hours or so from being hit by flying rocks, bugs, tree branches, mud, one bird. Heck I bet Id be even uglier now if my braincase had to endure that.

Always wear it. Now I even hand load the quad instead of riding into the back of the truck. When I did that, the helmet went on. Unloading, I pull it down by hand from the side (put in neutral, get up in the bed on the right side and pull it back. When it gets the the rear tires on the gate, I get down and pull it down. Use the front breaks to keep it from rolling down to fast and away.)
I think helmets, eye protection and gloves are the min. you need. Boots are good then followed by roost guard (aka chest protector) and pads.
As far as not wearing the chin strap? Are you kidding? If you are in an accident where you need the helmet, it's probably going to fly off without the chin strap. If it's uncomfortable, then you need to adjust it.
It may not always be cool and not macho to put on your brain bucket, but it's really uncool when your friends have to carry your casket to put it in a hole in the ground.

Bing- What do i think? You should wear a helmet but you will not hear me preach. Do i always wear a helmet?? No. My kid has to wear his cause that is the rule if he choses to ride. After he turns 18 and moves out he can make his own rules.
As a lot of guys on here know, i let forum members and friends ride at my place. Even throw a few parties for free. I took out a insurance policy to cover my butt to some degree. Probably not worth it but.
ONE THING MY INSURANCE COMPANY TOLD me was not to tell the people that ride at my place that helmets are mandatory. They said let them play and let our lawyers deal with it. The short story on that is if i tell them not to do this or that i will be shouldering responsibities if a accident occurs. If i think about it very long at a time i would shut the free riding down and cancel the insurance policy. When 250 or more people take off in different directions i just hope no one gets hurt, wether it is on my land or not. Ernie660 hit a trailerhouse head on in my pasture at 35mph with no helmet on. Scarred the crap out of me but he was okay. He is the hard headest person i have ever seen. We have had a few accidents here with a broken leg being the worst and one broke arm (bansheeboy2ky)
Common sense should be the guding factory. I do not deam it nessasary to put my helmet on to ride down my drivway to get the paper/mail or check out things on my property. I will wear a skid lid when i leave my property and go ride else where. At the dragstrip every one that comes here on a regular basis knows to make a slow pass and make sure the possums/armadillas have not sabotaged the track
Themez- I doubt your insurance premium goes up that much for the person that runs up a 250,000 dollar medical with no insurance or helmet on. Just like you have to pay for the gas that others steal or, write a bad check or decide not to pay there credit card. The grocery store is the same way . And the shoplifters that steal clothes at the mall it is all factored in on the price you pay. I have over 25 propeties that i pay poperty tax on in parker county texas. On each one of them there are taxes that go to the schools, taxes that go to the hospital district. ( i have never been to the hospital in parker county although i have paid them well or 10k over the years) then there is city tax for services that i recieve none of and do not want, lateral road tax etc. BTW I do some low income housing so i appreciate you paying your taxes to uncle sam so he can divide back out to various agencies. I go to quite a few quad repo actions and you would be amazed at how many quads/motorcycles get repoed. You had to pay a few bucks extra for your quad if you bought it new to cover the manufactures bad risk loses.
So everybody put the skid lid on and free up some medical money for some body else to figure out a way to screw the government/insurance out of the surplus money.

I never wear helmets. well I did when I was drag racing back in the US, and I even did that because I had to (13.99 seconds and faster cars have to wear a helmet)
and I don't wear helmets because I think it's cool not to, I just hate having a heavy a$$ thing on my head while I am riding and untill now I don't do wild tricks or anything like that with my bike, once I start thinking about doing big a$$ jumbs I sure will get me one tho.

Whether or not a helmet is needed depends on how you ride. If you ride ***** to the wall and pedal to the
metal all the time, you better wear that helmet all the time. If you are riding on a carved trail at 40 mph,
you better have a helmet. If you ride with other hellraisers, you must have a helmet. I don't even own a helmet.
Why? Because I don't do any of the above. Most of my riding is through heavy woods at 5-10 mph. It's kinda hard
to dodge trees every 10 feet at 40 mph. If I hit 30 I am in an open bean/corn field. If I hit 40 mph I am on a grass
private airstrip blowing her out or cooling her down. I really don't need a helmet and I don't want one.
If you want to call me stupid, go ahead. I have never had a crash on a ATV, btw. 17 years of riding, not one crash.
Never been injured, never came close to being injured. I know my limits, and stay within those limits.
I do however wear gloves, goggles, and leather bikers jacket.
