Which do you prefer, Twist or Thumb??

I'm in the same boat as Johnny. I'm from the dirt bike world originally, and on a db its twist all the way, but on a quad I much prefer the thumb. My raptor had a twist on it, and I liked it fine out on the flat track, but once I got in the woods with it it was just too short of a ratio to work good. It was either wide open, or nothing. With the thumb throttle I feel I can regulate throttle control MUCH better. But I would never put a thumb throttle on a db. Just my .02

I am the same as the other former dirtbike guys. I cna ride a dirtbike/streetbike all day with a twist but on a quad I prefer the thumb throttle. I think it has something to do with the extra axis you get by having 4 tires. Its give the machine so many more way to throw your body around and pivot that its hard not to stay off the gas at times.

I wouldn't ride anything but a twist. All the fears about twisting when hitting off a jump or going up a hill will disappear within a couple hours of riding. A twist on a quad feels no different than a twist on a bike.
Not to mention that a Motion Pro Vortec will give you about twice the throttle response of a thumb throttle due to the mechanical advantage.
