Why put down Warrior?
#12
we used the original radiator and actually were able to mount it in front of the motor just like on the street bike. It took a little engineering with the headers but it all fit like a glove. Obviously alot of cutting and fabricating had to be done. The part that we are struggling with most is airbox issues. With the carbs up a little at the back of the motor, the frame is in the way. Right now we just have some filter material covering up each of the 4 carbs individually. I dont have any close up pics of the bike and it is still in the rough stages i.e. needs to be taken back apart and cleaned and painted. It has however been to the dunes and made several passes up comp with very good results. I have a couple pics of it blasting the start of comp that I will post on my pics page.

I haven't read anything too negative about the Warrior. I guess some people like to jump on the newest thing and shun the older models. I agree that the Warrior is what it is and it's getting a little long in the tooth. The Warrior isn't the lightest quad out there but neither are other models that came out around the same time. The position of the seat doesn't allow a person to move around as much as on other models. I kinda grew to like the cruiser feel of the Warrior's seat. I like the Warrior but like with anything, there's always going to be something newer and better. I would own another Warrior to just play around on. I would kind of like to see a new Warrior 350 with 45 less pounds. Priced to sell below the prices of the 400's. Maybe a few other changes to bring the stock top speed of 60/61mph up a little. Some different shocks for handling. Bigger is not always better and I think there is still a place for a competitive 350 that is priced right.

OK, I rode a Warrior for years, and I was never so happy as the day I got rid of it and got a 400EX! Both the engine and frame are tired old designs, and Yamaha needs to "do the right thing" and retire them. Instead, out of pure greed, they continue to make money off of uninformed customers, who don't know any better. Even 5 years ago the bike made sense, but there are way way better machines out there today! You must have ridden your husbands Z, so you should know what I mean. No way to sugar coat this one. By the way, I did start out on a Blaster (wish I had kept it for the kids).
