Striped oil plug

There are a few things you can do. Thats one of them, watch the bolt length, and use grease on the tap, and go a turn or two on the tap, and remove and clean the chips off it then go a couple more turns, and clean, until youre thru. You dont want the cut material getting into the motor. Downside is, if it happens again, the hole will need to get even bigger.
Best fix, is to helicoil.

If I were tapping to a bigger sized thread and using a bolt, I would use a bolt with a sealing flat washer so you dont start leaking oil all over the place. Additionally, I would make sure you havent left burrs in the case or that will cause havoc on engine wear. Good luck and use a torque wrench next time and you wont be faced with this dilema.

Definitely take the time and the few dollars and head to napa and pick up a magnetic drain plug. I got one after i found out my one-way had been going bad and distributing minute shavings into my case. Then 2 months later i just changed my oil today and i found the drain bolt had caught alot of em.
