I am going to install a Hinson clutch basket as well as new clutch plates on my Banshee this coming weekend. This will be my first time replacing a clutch and basket. Seems like a pretty straight forward job and I do have the Yamaha manual. I'm looking for advice from someone who has been there. Are there any special tools required? Is there anything special that I need to know or look out for. Any help would be appreciated.

You will need to grind the rivets off the back of the gear to separate the gear from the stock basket. Use red lock tight on your Hinson mounting screws. Cushions may need to be replaced.
I put my clutch together with new steel plates, stock friction plates, so I could use the rubber cushion rings between the steel plates. They do help. I use three heavy duty springs and three stock springs. Your lever will be very stiff if you use all heavy duty springs.

The worst part about that job is grinding the rivets from the stock basket so you can get the gear off of it. I used an air powered die grinder with an 80 grit 3 inch Rol lock disc. You could use a small cut off wheel also. Then it just screws onto the Hinson piece, use lock tight on the screws (red) and don't forget to order the cushions if they aren't included with
the basket. After that just install everything according to the manual and adjust the clutch also. An impact wrench helps when removing the clutch nut. It's a big one I think 27mm, however a standard socket will work fine since they are so close to the same size. Not a bad job though. later

I have a Hinson basket and quick change clutch cover with a toomey clutch pack. Everyone is right on with the help they are giving you. Whatever you do just do NOT forget the RED loctite. Also, make sure you line up the arrows on the pressure plate with the arrow on the hub. I was in a hurry once and left that part out and my clutch didnt work for squat. You will love the smoother feel and actuation with the hinson basket.
