Hi, I have3 a 99 warrior with a DG pipe and a KN air filter with holes drilled in the air box. I recently installed a twist throttle and when I took it out to ride it it ran terrible. Every gear cuts out bad and It has little power. Does anybody know whats wrong? I'm considering getting a new pipe and jet kit for it, think that will help? Later

Kmoney, If this happenned after you put on the twist throttle why would you want to put new pipe & jet kit on it???!!! Chances are it has something to do with the twist throttle you just installed. Perhaps the slide is in wrong/backwards or the needle is wrong/bent/on wrong clip... Since putting a twist throttle involves the carb I would recommend you look in that area; not the pipes.

well, replacing the DG would be a step in the right direction )my opinion, only), but I think the real culprit in your case is jetting. You don't say whether you've done anything in that area, but opening up the airbox lid together with the pipe would certainly require a fatter main jet.FORGET THE JET KIT! They create more problems than they solve in most cases. The cardinal rule in adjusting most any piece of equipment is to adjust one thing & test before adjusting another. With jet kits most riders stick 2 or 3 different jets in the carb all at once, & when the bike runs like a dog, they have no clue why.
Changing the airflow, in the vast majority of cases, simply requires an increase in the main jet size.
Your stock main is a 145. I would suggest you buy a 150 & a 155. Try the 155 first & test ride with the needle in the 3rd position. That should take care of the full throttle performance. If you notice any cutting out in the 1/2 to 3/4 range you might raise the needle to the 4th position. The final answer lies in a test at full throttle with a brand new plug & pulling the plug without and idling or other riding & read the plug for proper coloration.
BTW, I have run twists in all my quads including the utilities. The have nothing whatsoever to do with your problem. If you had installed the slide 180 deg off the engine would have idled at about 3000 rpm & you'd notice it immediately.. I know, I did it once.

This is gonna sound silly but put your stock air filter back in and see how it runs. My K&N filter caused my Warrior to run very poorly too. I have no idea why, it was clean and properly oiled and for awhile ran just fine. One day it just ran like crap, I now run a UNI and have no more troubles. And putting the stock filter back in is the easiest thing to try. You might just be suprised, I did not believe it myself.

My warrior is idleing higher than it was before I put the twist throttle on. Does this mean that I need to redo it like you had to? Thanks

You never said if it was running " like crap" before you put the twist throttle on. So i would say go back and check the throttle and make sure the needle is returning correctly. the throttle sounds like the problem not the pipe

99 warrior hopefully soon to be 2001 raptor

My '97 Warrior acted that way after getting the parking brake adjusted. It turned out that the parking brake has some kind of rev limiter on it causing the engine to cut out if improperly adjusted. It might be worth a look.
