What do you guys think about re-bending my stearing stem?
#1
After my buddy rolled my bike and smashed it all up we noticed that the stearing stem was bent about 25 degrees to the right. He said he would go good for everything he broke and up untill now he has. He wants to try and straighten it. What do you think about that? I think that it would work for now but will bend alot easier in the future. We can get a local machine shop to put it in the press and do it.
Do you think it would hold up as good as before??
Thanks

Nope, once it has been bent, it will bend in the same place about twice as easy....you have weakened its structual integrity(sp?) Usually when you bend the stem, it becomes a good time to put a good/better/nice stem in. I can't wait until I bend mine, to put in a good one, or I just might put one in soon anyways. I would buy an aftermarket one if I was you.

i would'nt try to bend it back, it'll look bad and be weaker then the stock one since it got bent once already, if you can, just take it to a machine shop or job shop and have them cut out the bent section or the entire tube, put an internal sleeve in it, plug weld that in, and then weld the whole thing back together, it'll be way cheaper then getting a new one, but if nothings availible around you then i guess a stealership is the way to go.... lates, josh...

and then he will have to buy a new one! haha, hes RICH, its not like he cant afford it
