Ya, it vibrates pretty good, and behind the knocking you can hear a constant noise that sounds like a loud gear type noise. Could be something hitting a gear or 2 things hitting together, it's alot faster and quieter than the knocking.

It could be something like the counter ballancer sheared the key.

Yep. It's a safe bet to say you need to go right to splitting the cases and see what is the problem.

Ya, I pretty much came to that conclusion when I heard the noise. I just wanted to discuss it with you guys.

The first thing I would do is put a wrench on the crank and move it back and forth to see if you can get a feel of where the problem might be. If you think it might be a sheared key then all you have to do is pull the clutch cover off.

I hate hearing about any kind of engine trouble on a quad...espically on a built quad.

I can almost bet one or two of your jug bolts stripped out of the case. The only way this can happen is if the bolts were installed in the position of the jug. There are two short and two long bolts, and if there are not in the right location that is what will happen. I have already seen two 686 Rappy's have the same problem bigbubba. I hope you get it up and running soon.
