Default Going into reverse without using switch

My '02 Raptor has developed a new habit. If I shift down while in first gear it goes into reverse. I have moved the reverse switch back and forth to see if it was stuck, but it doesn't seem to affect the quads ability to go into reverse it is "always on". Any suggestions?

Check the cable down by the engine to make sure it is in the holder and the lever isn't bent. Then adjust the cable if needed.

I checked the cable. It is connected but has alot of play. I can push it down to the skid plate. I am assuming it should be tighter.
