686 problems?
What are the most common problems with the 686 kit.. I think i have delt with them all
What im wondering is now that i have basically replaced everythign on the top end with aftermarket what should i worry about down the road? DO i have to worry about the crank? or is that really not a common problem. should i change the cam chain every year? whats the best oil to use? besides yamalube? also..... with a build on a engine should i worry about the raptor tranny? my bike is an 02 so im not to worried but does the extra power put the tranny in jeprody? What about the chain would it be wise to get a new one now.> i have never replaced it and im worried about it brakeing and then screwing something else up
that seems like mumbo jumbo to me and prob you here is it sumed up

should i worry about crank probelms??
should i change the cam chain every year?
should i replace the chain i have on my bike or is there an inspection i could do to make sure its good?
the head on my bike now has aftermarket diamond valves and new rocker arms and it has a new cam and new tensioners and a new cam chain and new cam chain drive gear and new one way bearing and new clutch new clutch springs new piston new rod what should i worry about? i am contemplating keeping it because i love it but i dont want it to break all the time.. also.. would i be wise to sell it and buy a 05 or 04 yfz are they having problems with the yfz? i havent been following it thanks for your help

686 problems?
what are the problems with the 686 kit? getting hotter then normal is the only one i could think of
should i worry about tranny problems with the 686? not with a 02 model, if you had 01' tranny i would be replacing
should i worry about crank probelms?? if you didn't have the rod replaced and the crank balenced and trued i would be looking into that
should i change the cam chain every year? you should do a tear down and inspection once a year and if the chain has wear replace it. if you have a heavy duty cam chain i think it would be something to replace every two years
should i replace the chain i have on my bike or is there an inspection i could do to make sure its good? as long as you keep it lubed i would think it would be ok. just check the master link once in awhile to make sure it's not missing a piece or pulling apart.

686 problems?
sweet that helps..
I dont belive the crank was balanced and trued.. is this somthing i could do? whats involved.. Im only running the 10.5:1 comp piston so im not worried about the rod.. i figure if the rod goes.. more reason to go to the 105mm bore but About this heavy duty cam chain.. where do you get those.. should i be fine with a brand new stock one"? and power increase by having the crank balanced and trued?
also mine stays fairly cool with higher octane fuel and frequent oil changes and good antifreeze..
what oil is the best to run. i have been using this atv stuff by valvoline.but i dunno?
thanks

686 problems?
Maxima makes a good racing oil for a 686. But with the 10.5:1 you should be fine and not have overheating issues. Just make sure and run Engine Ice as your anti-freeze and you should fine.
There is really no reason to go into the bottom end of your motor just to balence the crank. If you ever raise compression to 12.5 or above on your 686, or goto the 105mm piston, then you will definetly want to split the cases have the crank balenced and trued, the rod replaced with a chromoly/carillo/titanium rod, and new bearings installed. There is no real power increase after having the crank baleneced and trued, but the motor has less vibration, and the new rod is a safety precaution against major damage.
As for oil, I just run regular Yamalube, but plan on changing to Maxima or maybe even the Valvoline. Just not sure yet.
As for the heavy duty cam chain, Sparks Racing usually sells them, and if you call around they are pretty easy to find.
