Default Yamaha Buyers Beware you could be buying an expencive lawn ornament

I have a 2002 660 grizzly with 4500miles on it,this machine has been serviced regulary.I was running the trail with a friend doing 40mph when i heard a big bang than came to a halt, upon further inspection i found she chucked her piston rod threw the block, totaly destroying the engine.I spoke with yamaha and they tell me i cant buy an engine. This leaves me with a $14,000.00 lawn ornament.PS.THANKS FOR NOTHING YAMAHA 14,000.00 includes extras and parts up to date. This engine IS totalled,to buy the parts to fix it is way to expencive and no yamaha dosn't sell that engine, they say they cant get it.If anyone knows where i can get one, please let me know. Thanks all for your time and comments.
PPS Ording the parts is not an option, need piston,rings,rod,ballancer,5 valves, both sides of block and so on and so on way to expencive. This machine is junk, unless i can find an engine.

JMO - Sounds to me like you havent been nice to the bike i.e. changing oil and oil filter every other ride or every three months and suggested tune ups..... I have way more miles on my bikes and that has never happened to a stock motor of mine.

I would think your best bet would be eBay if you were looking for just the motor.

14k for a grizzly? Even in canadian dollars thats a lot for a used ute.

I agree, someone hasnt been taking care of the engine, or this has been a problem for a long time.

Check ebay. You can get raptor engines for 2-3 grand.

I dont say they are better bikes but yes they have their problems. I had a problem when I went thru some bushes, my right front fender got a scratch on it. Damn Yamaha, why cant they make better fenders that dont scratch.....

Gums,

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about the engine explosion. Did you check into seeing if a newer year griz motor is a drop in for your 02 motor? If you dont find a motor, wire one of those lawn flamingos to the seat and roll it out in the yard.

Now that is funny. I think the bid was listed improperly, it should have been $0.02
