I didn't hear mine squeak until after I went through mud. Does moisture keep the caliper from retracting or something? Seems to relate to getting wet or muddy, whereas riding dry beforehand was fine.

OK guys, Just got off the phone with Yamaha. I informed them about the problem and stated it just wasent my problem but everybody with a new one is having the same problem. I told them to just check this site. They told me a file has bbeen created under my name and to take it to any dealer. If it is not a maintance or cleaning problem then Yamaha would surely cover any repairs.
I URGE all owners to call 1-800-7926 and follow the instruction till you get a live person. If I remember right I had to hit a #2 then a #5. You need to do it so it's on record to cover you rear should the break ever fail and you damage something. There is power in Numbers! The more who call the better. Dont forget to ask them how your soposed to grease the thing! I think it's going to work out!

Hey guys, I am new to the site and also a new atv owner, I have riden many but this is the first for myself, its a 2004 kodiak 450. I have been reading about the problems you guys are having with the 05's and even though I ride in mud and water most of the time I have'nt had any problems with back brakes squeeking so far , only about 300 kms on the bike though. I was wondering if my bike has the same grease points on the front as yours or if its a sealed unit, I cant seem to see any.

05's brakes are disk and 04 are drum. I'm pretty sure all else is the same. Go to the start of this post and scroll down and someone has posted a link that shows all the grease fittings including the ones up front. Hope this helps.

Ok , I took mine in to our local dealer who I did not even buy it from. When I said brake noise the ATV Tech. kinda of rolled his eyes and said here we go again. I left it and two hours later he said come get it.
I dont know what he did but it seems to worked. I road about 15 miles even cross a small creek and NO Noise yet! I need to talk to him and find out what he did. If he just took them apart and cleaned them I can do that. When I droped it off he was putting together a Special edition Grizzly. What a machine!
Hope this works and the noise dosent come back.

I heard there was a fix for this problem. Anyone know what it is or how to do it? I just got my 2005 and just have 20 miles on it and its starting to squeak. Should I take it back or call Yamaha? Is there a easy fix I could do myself?
