there is nothing wrong with a mechanical gauge, the more simple the better,
you don't even need to have ignition turned on to tell wether your ATV is filled with gas or not. example when the ATV is on the trailer and you may be towing it somewhere.
I did some checking today,
my gas gauge shows empty. looked through the gas tank filler (with a flash light ) and there is lots of fuel in the gas tank, more than a gallon for sure (reserve). however I have noticed that the fuel petcock (which has 2 plastic drain tube wich also act as a filter ) one higher plastic tube , this would drain when it is switched to the ON position, and the fuel level right now is just barely above and would have to switch to reserve very soon.
the lower tube (which is for reserve ) drains all the fuel , but as I said it iseems that there is a lot more than a gallon left in the tank.
I will fill it to the top tomorrow and see how much fuel it takes since the gauge shows empty.

.....so are we to believe that the tank gauge is for the upper tank, that AFTER hitting "E" we'll still have more than a gallon left of gas about when we have to switch to reserve? Seems to me that if that's the case, we are in good shape, because a gallon gives us plenty of time at that point to get gas, and can be treated as a 'warning light" as with regular automobiles.
