It's true first one at Ray Wilt Motorcycles to get Raptor. It is located in south western PA. in Hanover and I'm from MD. Came in today only one on truck. The black and white is truly gorgeous. The first thing you say when you see it is " Oh my GOD ". When you sit on it you say " Holy Sh#t " then when you drive it you say " JESUS CHRIST ". This thing is a marvel. Everyone who bought one don't worry it is no question the best high performance quad ever built. My freind has a DS650 with a pipe and jets, my other friend has the same set up on a 400ex. My warrior just couldn't deal. I riden all bikes and positively can say that a stock raptor could definitely hang with these modified machines. A modified Raptor! Shi#! There will be no contest. First gear in the Raptor shines. It is so powerful and long. It is made to be hammered into second. The speed you get to in first before shifting is amazing. In third gear the puppy kicks into serious overdrive just like a banshee or 250r. The thing is it keeps pulling hard to top speed of atleast 75mph. Even though it feels like 85mph. With a pipe and jet I believe 80 is easily attainable. The feel of this bike is one of a kind. Quads have now been redifined to a higher standard go Yamaha. Reverse on the raptor is so effortless. Finally a reverse that is practicle. The work on the frame and axle housing and swingarm is remarkable. No more crappy welds like on previous yamahas. Seat is awesome, clips for quick release on airbox, removale lights, rear shock is protected, narrow frame with extended a-arms. The only thing I question was the oil filter and hose placement. The mechanic said its fine and wont get damaged but said DG will make a plate to protect it. I have been waiting since my downpayment in May. The wait was definitly worth it. If you want one now my dealer says too late. He is only getting five units before the first of the year and Yamaha told him that they are all accounted for until 2002. Everyone was there watching at the dealership as I took it for a test drive for the onlookers. Put your mon ey down now why you can. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me at bschisler@aol.com

Hey guys,

I just picked up my black/white one today and noticed that the skid plates were plastic. I was wondering if everyones was like this. I was under the impression that the skid plates would be aluminum.

I just sat on a b&w 660R today and all I can say is DAMN!!! The suspension felt soo plush. I'm just REALLY glad they didn't make a 4WD version because I'd be super PISSED that I bought my Kodiak a while back. But really though it would be nice if they made a 4WD version, useless as it is on the track it would be nice in the woods.

Besides deep mud a 2wd can go anywhere a 4wd can. No one wants a 600lb raptor!

I don't understand the top speed of 75 when the rev limit is at 9000 RPM and the gearing as posted elsewhere. I ran a simulation of the Raptor with a DS650 torque curve and it would easily do into the eighties before running out of G's.

War99 go check my site, and send me the info to put you in the owners registry, your right people just love watching and drooling.
I asked the dealers about the plastic and he said that other quads using it seem to have better luck than with metal, but some AC racing or DG wouldnt hurt it either. Id hate to have to get a price on that swingarm and axlehousing.
My only complaint is not enought time to ride it yet.

Im going to try and gps mine tomorrow, After I feel a little more broken in, I hate to keep the revvs up as hot as it is here 95+. I expect above 75mph. I think it would probably do 80s but something is probably limiting it somehow, If the revv limiter is 9000 I bet they start prelimiting it at a lower rpm in 5th gear.

Why would anyone want a 4X4 Raptor or 400EX? That would be the stupidest thing. You either get speed or a bike that will do alot of utility things not both. I wouldnt want to see yamaha be like Polaris (junk) in my opinion.

WHATEVER!!! If it had 4WD, it wouldn't necessarily have to be "polaris junk". It's still a yammie. It would just have traction up front.. I mean yes it would be a little heavyer but for **CERTAIN PEOPLE** it would be a nice option. I bet those Scrambler 500 HO's work pretty nice on the trails being 4WD. As long as they don't break down anyway...

Jesus... I've never seen anything like it. I make a little comment on what I would like and I get jumped on like I said the bike sucked or somthing!
