Making dams in the creek to make a swimming hole
I wish I had a dollar for every rock I carried to form a dam at the rapids every year. We would leave a area about 5 feet wide open for the water to rush down through. Forming walls to keep the water centered for about 12 feet. Then we'd ride our tubes down the rushing water through the opening in the dam.
It's funny because my cousins would come up from the NYC. They would wonder what I did all day without video games or cable tv.

We would swim in the canals that ran through our county didn't worry about trespassing back then, the districts didn't worry to much about being sued, if you scrapped a knee. Today, they are putting fencing up around town to keep people out.
How about opening up the hood of your vehicle and actually being able to work on it
Having a qualified mechanic tell you what the problem with your car is after taking it on a drive Unlike today, where they hook it up to a computer, turn to you and say "The computer shows nothing wrong with it"

WHAT A GREAT POST!!!
how bout waiting for a walt disney show to air on a saterday night.
the one time your parents could afford to take you to a picture show.
the DRIVE IN( all gone in my area now)
having the schwinn go over that huge 2 ft jump you took all day with 4 friends to build.
leaving in the morning, and not coming home till dusk, and your parents wern't worried.
being whipped by the neighbors until they handed you over to your parents to finish, lol
sitting at the counter at the local soda shop, just waiting for the rootbear float.
seeing the president on, and knowing your night was up to your emagination now, lol!
the pliars needed to change the channel.
aluminum foil, and rabbit ears.
burning bugs for hours with the maginfying glass.
seeing your friend, who is a girl, finally starting the training braw, at 14.( now its 9, lol)
hearing of a thing to play movies, and not understanding( beta)
watching the first video on mtv( video killed the radio star)
looking at the car behind you in the back of the wagon, with the rear window down.
making 5 dollars working on 5 homes, cutting all the lawns.
seeing cigerettes hit 25 cents, and hearing you parents threaten to quit over the prices.
gasoline hitting 50 cents a gallon, and your dad looking at a beedle.
man, cant ya just go on forever, lol

Pong.
Your parents spending $97 on something new called an "electronic calculator" that adds huge numbers instantly.
The first microwave, and making a baked potato in FIVE MINUTES!
Ruining your girlfriend's fingernail file by freshening up your ignition points in the school parking lot.
Filling it up with Ethyl.
Seeing the first commercial for that cute little Ford Pinto.
The Cowsills.
Sitting around with your friends listening to Bill Cosby records. (Buck Buck!)
Edgar Winter in quadrophonic.
Riding your bike 4 miles to school in 4th grade and nobody thinking anything of it.

When I was 10 living in Dallas Oregon the population was around 7k, I believe now it's like 14-15k. I was able to go across town to the swiming pool, go across town to the river and swim. Ride my bike anywhere, go to the roller skating rink on my own. Heck I even got up for a few weeks every summer at 3am to ride a bus with my brother and sister to the bean and strawberry fields to earn some money for myself. When living on the farm on the outskirts of town between Dallas and Falls city I was toteing around a 22 rifle through the woods at age 8, with and without my older brother. We'd also go out into the woods and camp over night just me and some frinds from down the dirt road. Can't do those type of things now for sure. Shady, that might shed a little light on why I am so drawn to Montana. .
