Default Growing up in the 30's-70's

Boy does this post bring back memories !! One that sticks in my mind was staying up late on Saturday nights to watch a show called horror incorporated with my older brother. Man he used to scare the crap outa me when it was on. We very seldom ever played in the house and I actually had very few toys, But I didn't need any. Everyone in our neighborhood hung out together and playe ball. Even the older kids hung out with us and even though they picked on us sometimes they always looked out for us. We even knew all the cops and they knew where to go when snowballs started hitting things they shouldn't. I did some stupid things back then and, But never anything to hurt someone. If the worst things my son does is everything that I did when I was growing up I will consider my parenting a success. Today the things that happen scare me !! Arguements used to be settled with our fists and two days later we were friends again and now days someone winds up dead.

I never thought of talking back to someone (especially my dad) because I would have gotten an a$$ whooping !!! Now days kids call the cops on their parents and press charges.

It sure was fun back then !!!

Ride my bike anywhere, go to the roller skating rink on my own. Heck I even got up for a few weeks every summer at 3am to ride a bus with my brother and sister to the bean and strawberry fields to earn some money for myself. When living on the farm on the outskirts of town between Dallas and Falls city I was toteing around a 22 rifle through the woods at age 8, with and without my older brother. We'd also go out into the woods and camp over night just me and some frinds from down the dirt road. Can't do those type of things now for sure. Shady, that might shed a little light on why I am so drawn to Montana. .
Holy Crap Batman!

Mrs. Shady is from Sweet Home Oregon. Aunt Lilly and Uncle Gene still live in Dallas. Mrs Shady's older sister and brother used to go work in those beanfields for extra cash!! That woulda been in around late 60's early 70's. They took the bus down there. Hey I bet you were watching her bend over to pick beans!! I didn't know you were from up around there. Val's dad still lives in Sweet Home too. Small dam world eh?

I still have Indian Reservation on 45.

First time I put in skoal was on the 4th of July. Got a buzz off it. Last time was when I saw a picture of what it could do to your teeth and gums.

Fishing at the local ponds. I was always thirsty when I didn't have anything to drink with me. Never when we took something to drink with us.

First cars. Your own space to put whatever you wanted in it.

All night drive-in. 2 cases of 30 pack Strohs in cans for 3 guys. lol. That's 20 beers per person.

Setting up a bike ramp with a couple boards and a couple cinder blocks. My neighbor just had to try it. He went head over heels. Later I heard that he became a bull rider in rodeos.

Yes it is a small world LOL. It would have been around 1968-1969 when I was picken them thar beans. I'm sure if there was bending over I was lookin. . The best fight I ever saw was in those bean fields. The guy was gettin his **** kicked bad, he kept getting back up and taken more tho, He was a bloody mess by the time anyone stopped it, face all puffed up everywhere. Turns out the guy who was beating his *** was a boxer, they were both in their mid teens or so. Dallas was a fun place to be as a kid. With it not realy growing a whole lot over all these years I'll bet it's still a great place for kids. Oh yeah at the swiming hole on the river (can't remember the rivers name) there was an area the older kids would go skinny dipping. .

Remember the metal Playground equipment that would burn the heck out of you on summer days....or you would wear shorts, and your skin would actually stick to the metal slide while you were trying to slide down???? SQUEEEEAAKKK!!!!!!

One of my favorites was while growing up in Ohio, getting a pallet from a nearby factory, stuff it with Styrofoam, and float with a couple friends down a rain-swollen creek behind our house. We had to jump off and grab the floating pallet just before the creek ran under a highway crossing.....good times...we survived...

Thanks for bringing back the memories wshrdskin!!!!!

Thats all good guys but most kids still experience over half the stuff you listed....don't jump to conclusions. Although it did make me chuckle Alot of it I did myself and I grew up in the 80's and mostly the 90's, maybe living in the middle of nowhere it hick town brings it on? hehe

Hey I grew up in the 80's and we were dirt poor, so I got to experience most of those things, and I wouldnt trade it for the world. I loved making mud pancakes and moving dirt with my Tonka dump truck.... ah those were the days.
