Raptor vs yfz450
#33
Just wondering, why would anyone buy a 2004 Raptor(which uses a motor from some dual-sport bike Yamaha sells in Europe..hence the crappy shifter linkage) & then hop it up with cams, pipe, filter,etc...when you could have bought a 2004 YFZ 450? Is it because it has reverse? Or was it the 660 sticker on the side of it?

Some people like the yfz, some like the raptor. God forbid some people even like both (me). Not everyone has to ride the same machine to have a good time, and no single machine is always faster than others.

Stang, all I'm saying is that if you're gonna spend money on cams, pipes, etc to hop a Raptor up you could have saved money by buying the YFZ 450 in the 1st place. Pipes & cams would run you at least $700, not counting labor to install the cams(unless your sure enough of yourself to do it yourself),then after you have the Raptor running like a striped ape you still have to address the narrow stance of the machine with aftermarket A-arms, shocks & a wider axle & then add at least a grand for those items.Sure, the Raptor is a great quad, but if you really want performance, get the 450...it's cheaper if you think about it. Oh, just because I didn't list my quads & bikes doesn't mean they don't exist.

a raptor has more potential than a 450... i cant leave anything i have stock and i got the raptor at a good price so with all the installs im doing it puts it at the price i could get a 450 for... but my raptor will kill a 450... so it wouldnt save me money buying one

A Raptor has more potential than a YFZ 450?? Are you kidding? You must be talking about hopping up the motor since the 450 already has higher compression & revs further then the 660. Or are you talking about making it a full on drag bike?Sure, it takes more work to get a Raptor to run like a 450..so I guess you can call that having more potential motor work to do. You do know that you can send the 450's head out to Pro Circuit & have it flowed & ported & also bump up the compression too. Don't even say that the Raptor's swingarm, shocks & frame have more potential, & I haven't even mentioned the weight issue yet! More potential work to get it to perform is what I see.
