The oil leak is more than likely not your problem. In fact the stator and pick-up coil is oil bathed and even if you looked at the stator you wouldnt be able to see anything wrong. To test a stator you'll have to pick up a manual and (i cant remember exact details) you'll have to check a few voltages off of the wiring harness.

The easiest way to tell if your having electrical problems is to check the spark with a good spark plug against the head.

Remember the 3 things an engine needs: Fuel, Combustion, and Spark.

Check your carb boot (the rubber part that connects your carb to the motor). Mine tore in the middle and I had simular problems.

it sound's to me like the float is stuck and it only run's untill it run's out of gas is there anyway you may have bump the float when cleaning the carb's jmo
