Move to an area you don't need to lock anything up. A 150 pound doberman/rottwieler/tosa inu mix helps too. She will change any thief's mind when they see her growling at them.
Seriously though, I could never live in an area I can't trust. Once every 5 years or so something gets stolen around here and it usually ends up having to do with drug dealing. I can leave my garage open and un locked all day and not have anything stolen. Everyone knows everyone and if someone parked a vehicle in my drive while I was gone I'd hear about it, and probably have a copy of their plate number too. Neighbors are close enough to care, but far enough to still be good neighbors!

Why don't the security firms come up with a type of chain that even a grinder couldn't cut it.
How thick should the chain be for the grinder not to cut it.
How think should the chain be for the fire not to cut it.

progressive inssurance is like 600 a year...i don't think so. I sleep in the room next to mine and in the same room I sleep I keep an AR-15 with three 30 round clips ready to go. Last people who robbed my garrage wound up half dead in a ditch after my pops slamed thier car off the road in a high speed chase.....note to self...cops do not take kindly to this tactic....but hey, if they steal from my family they are going to be in for more than they bargained for.

Just make sure if you kill or seriously injure the thief or thieves that you knew your life or the lives of your loved ones were in danger and you had no other recourse but to use deadly force. Then make sure that you are able to articulate this to a jury if need be. Most police will be on your side because taking out a scum bag is just one less they have to deal with later. it's also a good idea that he have a weapon in his hand when the police see the body. But don't blast the guy in the back when he's running off your propery. You will have a hard time getting the Prosecutor, Judge and Jury to believe you were in fear for your life when you shot him.
