When you get your father in law to remove some material, remember to let him know you want a 10% reduction in weight , not diameter...its different. Youll probably need to use a scale ...i used my reloading scale, because they dont weight much...somewhere around 20 grams. I think the inner material is aluminum, and the outer shell is a plastic material, like teflon. I suppose its plastic in case the grease ever comes completely off of it, then it will still have some lubracation.
Some people have done every other weight, and have claimed it made a difference, but i think youll need all of them done. My 450 has 8 weights, and the bruin has 6...im not sure how many are on the 400, but ive heard its 6. I havent heard of anyone whos tried the secondary spring from a bruin 350 in a kodiak 400, but it might be worth a try, and i cant believe it would be very expensive.
Have you got a link to the web site for those epi weights?
Let us know how it goes...im interested.

I think I may just try drilling holes in them like some others suggested. I will start with a very small bit and one hole in each, and go from there. The EPI weights are here:
http://www.erlandsonperformance.com/new/ATV-yamaha.php - Then just click on the clutch weights in the menu.
