can someone please tell me how this is done on an oring chain?

you need a chain cutter

so theirs no way to shorten the chain w/ out a chain cutter???

I did it with a grinder, a punch and a hammer

You can grind off the pins to slightly below flush with the outer plate and then pry the plate off. Then push the other half of the link out.

yes, grind the head off the pin then take a punch to knock the pin out....Iv done this to many chains

Did it ever occur to you guys that if your chain is stretched to the point where you need to remove a link to make it fit right that maybe you need to REPLACE IT ??????
A $60.00 chain is a whole lot cheaper than replacing a tranny axle or an engine case after youve snapped the chain and it wraps around the counter shaft.
If you cant afford to fix it right than you cant afford to own an ATV, Sell it to someone that will take good care of it.

Or maybe a chain comes to long and a link needs to be takin out to make it short enough to fit.

Actually it did occur to me, but that wasnt the question. I usually replace sprockets and chains as a set but I realize some cant afford that.
