Installed Stage one cam, and valves are out of wack........

If you have all of your timing chain slack towards the front of of the engine, when you install the timing chain tensioner you could possibly be off 2 teeth on your cam gear timing. At this point valves hitting the piston is a serious issue.

If timing is off, wouldnt it run like crap because it is opening and closing valves at the incorrect time? I believe it is in time fine, because it idles and revs great, it just ticks so much. When the mechanic did it the first time, i had a used camshaft stage one, and i bought a new HotCam stage one to put in and we did it ourselves at shop. It took a long time and we went slow step by step. i will just have to bring it to someone i guess. im clueless

With the cam 180 out it wil still rev without stumbling, but the power wont be there. That's my guess, you just set everything up on the wrong stroke. Some valve noise is normal, but if it sounds like someone is dangling a set of keys inside your head then you've got issues.

I readjusted them to HotCams specs, and its still making some noise, but it is A LOT better than what it was. Also, a little problem i noticed is it was slightly out of oil . I am sorry to say the raptor is gone in a few days however. I am trading it for a 03 blaster with about 1200 into it, and a 2000 cr250 beautiful condition and also 1500 cash. so im not complaining.---Rider1169

Sounds like a great idea, trade in a raptor for a worse handling, slower kiddy atv and a dirtbike. The bike is easily the better machine in the trade but it appears as though you just gave up on it. If you arent committed enough to go through with a cam install then you're going to have problems when it comes to upkeep on those two strokes...

Well, i agree the blaster is slow, but it works out good for my young cousins and such so i can take them riding. I see much more potential with the bike over a big slow machine any day. Its much more fun and is great to make my own jumps and lines. Id rather do without the annoying (lazy) cams and valves. Sure i guess reliability is an issue, but its much more fun and free willing to be on a bike, to me anyway. Cheaper parts too. So maddog, thanks for your comments about how dumb my decision was. The trade was just like me selling the raptor for close to 6k so im not complaining.

I completely understand, if you dont have the desire to keep a high performance machine running then you need to step into something that doesnt require so much effort. I just think about the fact that there are hoards of blaster owners here that wish they could have a 660 and here you are giving yours up for what they already have. Maybe you should have started out on the kiddy quad, then you'd appreciate the raptor more.
Good luck on your new bike.

It sounds like you are happy with the trade, good for you. I just hope that there are no internal engine problems with the raptor that you got rid of because that could really ruin someone's experience. I got screwed over when buying a banshee, it was my first quad and I saved all the money myself. I'm not going into details but lets just say than when I finally got rid of that piece of crap I could have payed someone 2000 dollars to kick me in the nuts and had the same experience.

I started out with a xr200 dirt bike, then a 2003 blaster. Then up to the raptor. I really did apprieciate the raptor for what it is, but then i think back to the blaster. I think the blaster is quite suprising for just what it is. And what an easy bike to work on. It is a fun little bike and will get a lot of use mostly by younger members of the family. The bike is very nice and is also very easy to work on. I will miss the raptor in a big way, but im happier on a large bike. We got the raptor running very good before i traded, the exhaust valves were the problem, after a long time of busting my knuckles and getting the correct angle, I got them to the correct specs and no more ticking. ---Rider1169
